John replied to the topic Will committed recruits stay committed? in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Wilson is playing like most freshman play. He has some talent but his size is a negative. He tries to make what I call “High school” plays. By that I mean that in HS the best player on the field is normally the QB. He can do things that he cannot do at the next level. The same from college to the NFL. He will have to learn what he cannot do.…[Read more]

The way I see it, here’s where the heartburn with Harlan comes in:
1. It was Harlan that gave Whitt the massive extension that Utah is on the hook for.
2. Harlan flubbed the Smith hire and stayed too long with Farden. Given that, it’s hard to see him being capable of selecting the next football coach if Scalley isn’t the automatic hire. -

You’re right…I’m sure he’s got some upside but his play and skillset scream “G5” at me. Yeah, sure, he had moments early on this season and at Copper Canyon, but once the book on him was printed he hasn’t been able to play well consistently. I mean, what’s the difference between him and Maddux Madsen at BSU, other than Madsen is providing…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic What Utah Needs to Do During the Rest of the Season in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Maybe in times past I would agree with you…but, right now, NIL is king…just like tons of people stay in jobs that they despise because of the money, so you’ll see players stay at programs because of the money they’re making. Now, if some program offers a disgruntled player more money and perks, I could definitely see that player leaving for…[Read more]

If anything, this season has lowered Wilson’s value. His warts have been put on display for everyone to see. No top program is going hard after an undersized kid who can’t cope with pressure in his face.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Scalley vs Whitt in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
It really comes down to whether or not anyone thinks Whitt is capable of calling it a day before there is no shred of doubt left that someone else would be better running the program.
I’m of the opinion that he should get to finish out his current contract if, and only if, he is willing to completely overhaul his staff. I just can’t see him…[Read more]

The Utah coaching staff making puzzling quarterback decisions? No way!!!!! 😝

Eagle, I have no idea. I was also puzzled as to why the defense didn’t dare Houston to beat them through the air once they got the ball back. The Cougars ran eight plays, all runs, before they kicked the game-winning FG.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Scalley is recruiting future coaches. in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
That’s the big news? That Scalley’s rolodex is so small he’s contacting local coaches to be on his staff? How can people think he’s not going to be Whitt 2.0 if he isn’t trying to find the best available assistants to fulfill his vision for the program

I thought Rose looked confident and that he had control of the offense but what can you expect from him when that was his first live game action since he has been at Utah.
Take it for what its worth but I have heard that Huard is killing it in practice as scout team qb but doesn’t sound like the coaches even are considering him to play, which is…[Read more]

Unpleasant questions for sure. It wouldn’t be the first time Utah chose the wrong QB to start.
Rose looked good to start. Those drops and mistakes just make your jaw drop as well. The play calling didn’t improve either. Still very disjointed in what kind of system Utah wants to run. -

The money for these athletes is where I hear Harlan has been meddling.

I’m curious which of those two things you find most likely? To me they are opposite sides of the same coin so I’m interested why it’s one or the other

A long time ago someone gave me some advice. “Never hire anyone you can’t fire”. I would say it especially holds true in the college football business.
Interested in your thoughts here. Consider grading out the Ute Position Coaches and Head Coaches as well as other associated groups like Strength and Conditioning based on player’s…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic The effort of this team is pathetic in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Unfortunately, I believe you’re right and that he won’t walk away from the program. The problem is that I don’t see him being able to reinvent himself and lead Utah to future success. That means that he’ll probably overstay his welcome and end up being fired, thus tarnishing his legacy. Interesting times are certainly upon us as Utah fans.

Utehoopsfan replied to the topic Scalley is recruiting future coaches. in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Yeah it just seems like time for Whitt to retire. Maybe if he had a really talented team coming back next year, but it isn’t looking like it. Time for a change.

Northendzone Ute5 replied to the topic Rose in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
I thinks we should give Rose a chance in practice to beat out Wilson. He has probably already been given the opportunity but got beat out, unless there is some external pressure to play Wilson. I would actually like to see him play a full half just to see how the team responds to him. It really can’t get any worse.

Utehoopsfan replied to the topic Whittingham is an average coach in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
2008, but yes. Whitt is a coach whose averages 4 losses a season. He’s a good coach. I’ve never called for him to be fired, but he also isn’t a great coach that should get a statue.
