I’m not an X’s and O’s guy, but Marion’s ‘Go-Go Offense’ at UNLV (43.5 ppg through 7 games) seems to pass the eye test. He makes ~300k (sigh!), and will likely be a hot commodity in the off season. Do you think Utah might be interested, and is there a chance we could land him?

why wait? fire up the band and run like hell now!
when you’re in a bad streak you need to change things up, find yourself a slumpbuster, do anything and everything necessary to get it turned around.

down 20-0 comes back to win 31-27. Just another example of how you need a functioning offense capable of scoring points at any time.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic BYU & Utah stats through 7 games in the forum Football 9 months ago
I’m as hard on the coaches as anyone on here but the players still have to make the plays. As good as the defense has been, the numbers of interceptions that have ended up on the ground is astounding. A PBU can force a punt but with the lack of a return game, you’re giving up 40+ yards of field position.
That’s where the parochial school has…[Read more]

Yes. That’s why I listed redzone last. My whole point is the difference between 3 losses and undefeated can be very thin. And I attribute ours mainly to coaching.

One team executed when they needed to and one team didn’t? Seems more important than any of the stats you listed.

If we had a semi functioning redzone offense through the first seven games there’s a great chance we are 7-0 right now.

So to sum up what you’re saying, the current NIL system is bad for teams like Utah. I don’t think you’ll find anyone who disagrees.
I have found that my interest in college football is at an all time low this year, partly because of the two year drama surrounding the program but mostly because of NIL/portal rules. I haven’t missed a game in…[Read more]

Okay then, so we give at least part of the credit to Brian Johnson who called plays himself, Cam who mastered pre-snap reads to audible into the right play and Huntley the playmaker who improvised during plays.

Visualize this and choose (has a lot, perhaps everything to do with our current situation):
Imagine you are an exceptionally talented 4 or 5 star high school football recruit whose offer sheet you have whittled (no pun intended) down to Utah and Oregon. Which program do you choose?
Oregon! Sorry guys, but that’s the reality.. and IT IS what…[Read more]

I will NOT miss these post practice interviews and the press conference the week after a game. I hate being someone who doesn’t believe a person I admire so greatly but KW could tell me it’s 75 degrees and sunny outside and I’d have to go make sure it wasn’t actually snowing.

Anyone who saw us adding the players we added, Wilson, Singer, the basketball kid, etc and thought we would struggle/lose to ASU, Arizona, TCU was full of shit.
We should be undefeated. There is no excuse for this year, other than bad coaching. The talent is there. The schedule is easy. There is not excuse for 3 losses.

Anytime any leader starts to pull transparency, you know things are bad.
Good leaders don’t hide anything because they have nothing to hide. Anytime anyone closes the books, the accounts, practices, meetings, etc, you know they are going sour.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Utah at Houston thoughts. in the forum Football 9 months ago
False start is a dead ball foul. The play shouldn’t have started but sometimes does before anyone hears the whistle.
Illegal motion is the same as offsides where you can choose the result of the play or the penalty.

Yeah, that false start penalty made me wonder why those don’t count as a free play for the defense; kind of like how offside is a free play for the offense.
I wonder what it would be like if they were allowed to continue the play and the defense was allowed to accept/reject the penalty.
