I think a big part of why they announced the “coach in waiting” thing was to provide for continuity once Whit DOES leave. They can’t say they didn’t know. They’ve already mulled over what it will be like with the change in head coach. So I think less people would hit the portal once Whit leaves than most anyone would think.

The biggest arguments for Whitt starting are the contract, and he doesn’t want to go out on what has been a completely disappointing season. The argument for retirement is that he will still get paid in an advisory role, he already has plenty of money, and he wants to spend more time with his family without the stresses(especially in the NIL…[Read more]

One of things I love about Morgan is he know the importance of an explosive offense. Yes he’s a defensive coordinator mind but he was a captain and all American with Urban Meyer. So he understands the need for both sides of the ball to be humming. And MS has said he wants a “Urban-like offense.”

Until I see different body language and commentary from Whitt, I’m of the opinion that he’s going to be at Utah for a while. There are people out there, and I was one of them, that are well compensated but aren’t in love with their line of work. So, when those people make their mint and have their future assured, they jump ship.
Whitt doesn’t…[Read more]

We should start whistling and hissing like other countries instead of booing. I think the oo sound just carries and is differentiated from the oh sound (for general crowd noise) or ah in yeaaaaaahhhh for cheers. It’s just sounds voicing an emotion. So, really, you are saying you don’t feel there should be any negative emotions shared, only good…[Read more]

I have never understood the Whittingham 2.0 statements. That sounds pretty great to me. Sustained growth for a very long time and regular winning seasons with good wins. The offense has been rough for Whittingham but he has had flashes of brilliance.
The bring in Jay Hill crowd don’t make a lot of compelling arguments for me. Especially when i…[Read more]

Gotta disagree with you Chinn. No speculation here. It is not a guess. Medical protocols REQUIRE informed consent. Rising knew and I reiterate, Whitt should have known, too…at least if he’s doing his job. Furthermore, “Full Recovery” stated from your post is tantamount to saying 100% recovery. No surgeon will give you that definitive of a…[Read more]

Thanks Tony that’s good news. It will be interesting to see if Whitt steps down how many guys hit the portal or stay with Scalley. With Ludwig gone it’s time for a new era. Next year will be a rebuilding year so let Scalley mold a team with his vision.

Scalley has always been a great recruiter and is far from a Whitt 2.0 when it comes to philosophies. If Whitt hangs it up, there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic about the future.

Recently I had a chance to spend some time with a parent of a former Utah Football player who is now in the NFL. We talked about recruiting and all sorts of stuff. He made it very clear to me that the entire reason his son chose Utah Football was Morgan Scalley. Some people think that recruiting will suffer when Whitt finally hangs it up. Perhaps…[Read more]

Fun fact: contracts can always be renegotiated or have language added if all parties agree.

his contract states that he gets 1.0 for retiring and just under that per annum for 5 years of consulting. He doesn’t get to roll his salary over into his retirement package so the 6.5 MM per is what he would be leaving on the table for any unfulfilled years.

Not trying to be a downer since everyone of us will age and die, but Whitt will probably never teach his great grandkids much of anything. Most people never meet their great grandparents, let alone learn hard work from them. That’s what parents, teachers, coaches, grandparents, and older siblings are for.

Rather hard to believe that Singer has zero touchdowns so far this season.

His contract already gives him 1.5M upon retirement and 995k/yr for 5 years as an asst to the AD. Either way, he’s fine.

I don’t think that’s how it going to work. He’ll retire and some of the money will be rolled into a retirement package. Again, I don’t know but it all makes sense why he’d retire and still get a chunk of that money.
