BYU’s total basketball NIL for next season could be 25 mil or more depending on how they finish in the transfer market.
That’s basically pocket change to their wealthy boosters.
The ncaa has taken a “be careful what you wish for” approach with NIL. They completely step away from it and any regulation to govern it.
They have grabbed a bag of…[Read more]

I do believe that there are some people who will donate forever. Ryan Smith’s wealth is estimated at 1.4 billion and growing. If he invested 200 million an account that made him 10%, he could donate 20 million per year without feeling it. He is totally invested in BYU basketball, making BYU one of the top 5 highest paid teams in the…[Read more]

I agree that the concept of NIL was good. But, it is now out of control. I do think that Ute Dub is right that we will likely not be able to reign in this mess. This is why college sports is becoming less appealing to me.

Did anyone go to the Jazz game Friday night? The Thunder rested their starters so Carlson played 25 minUtes. Branden put up 9 pts 2 boards and 1 rebound — seems like it was not the most stellar night but I didn’t see the game.

I wonder if/when some rich donors will stop giving the big money because of the lack of ROI or other reasons. OR do they just have so much money they could give forever and it wouldn’t matter?

Stop. There were very few of us pushing back against players getting paid. You guys wanted this, you cried about it, you cried for it, and you pushed ahead with this as the solution.
The players were already getting paid especially when valuing their schollie, food, room and board, training, coaching, etc. benefits all paid for.
Now you have…[Read more]

This article is about BYU. My problem is not about BYU specifically. It’s about how NIL and the portal have blown up into something totally out of control. College sports, specifically basketball, will be controlled by the schools with the deepest pockets. In BYU’s case, they have a few donors who will give 10s of…[Read more]

As one of those ALUFs – as they like to call my kind – I have never once felt awkward about supporting Utah or disliking BYU-Provo Campus. The distinction between belief and school affiliation is very black and white in my mind.

NIL can not be capped any more than Lebron’s endorsements. It is that simple. The previous rules limiting college athlete’s ability to control their name and likeness were deemed illegal by the judicial system.
New rules would have to take some other form- but endorsement money is out of the barn, running around the neighborhood, and isn’t going…[Read more]

I would agree with you but for the fact that I see no legal way for big institutions to put a cap on NIL. I’m not a lawyer, but if the bluebloods tried doing that, it would surely be challenged in court with threats of antitrust, prevention of commerce, etc…arguments. I always thought that, once the genie was ou the bottle, the potential for…[Read more]

My hope for the 2025 season is for Whitt, Jason Beck and Morgan Scalley field the best Utah football team in years, go into LES undefeated (or with 1 loss) and embarrass the hell out of the Big12 prima donas on their home field and show the college football world it doesn’t pay to lie, cheat and steal from your rival or anyone else for that matter.

What is so disrespectful? “We can’t beat them so let’s make stuff up to make them go away” Your words not mine. My point being wearing garments doesn’t make you a BYU fan. I have many friends that went to the U or grew up in Salt Lake being Utah fans that are LDS. Many on this site. BYU fans mocking LDS fans for going to the U or rooting for the U…[Read more]

Yep this aligns perfectly with what I’ve heard.
Miller’s agent, although I don’t even know who he is.
Which is a bit baffling. If Andre wants to be a part of Utah basketball- which he was reported to want as recently as last year when Smith was still coach – I find it strange that he’s letting his agent screw that up for him.
Agents rarely…[Read more]

Yes it means someone close to Andre being stubborn with the financial terms.

“Do you root for the school you attended or is in your backyard or based on your under garments? I love our LDS fans and have great respect for them.”
Your first sentence would denote anything but respect for our LDS fans. Geez man.
