Eagle, let me know when you want to go to a game and I’ll give you a ticket so that you can watch up close and personal.

Number 7 is why I can’t stand him. It isn’t positive vibes. He is either a liar or myopic.
Not much you can say after beat downs I get it. Don’t say strides though. Maybe point the finer details in why you think defensively the strides are being made.
I think he is looking at the shots not falling and saying Utah loss because ball didn’…[Read more]

Pass. I almost went to a football one. Almost.

I remember when we hired Craig. The initial vibe I got was that he seemed like a phony. He’s real, perhaps overly positive and is trying I guess, but seems like he’s not very good at many facets of his job.

Correct. Hunter Erickson never was and will never be a P4 level guy. Thats reality

Frankly I think his post game comments are a joke. They are so disconnected from reality. Craig is a generally optimistic person which is great but it wears out quickly when you are so optimistic you avoid reality.

I have made it a point to listen to Craig Smiths post game interviews lately to try and glean from him what he is trying to do and what the team’s deficiencies are etc…
Here is what I can conclude:
1. He is very concerned about Points Per Possession both in how we do and how well we defend our opponent. He stated that when Lawson was in the…[Read more] -

Not to move the goalposts, but it could be worse: Imagine being a BYU-Provo Campus basketball fan. They’ve got a sugar daddy, they’re all-in on basketball, they’ve put together the best roster money can buy…and they’re still getting clobbered in the Big 12. Everyone there is down bad right now.
Yeah we’re getting clobbered too, but the…[Read more]

Harlan should be next to go.
Utah should not be the third best team in the state of Utah in BB or Football!

Yep his postgame comments are always nonsense — major “participation trophy” energy. Weak sauce. I’m not saying he needs to rip into the players, but everything about his energy and words is Charmin soft.

Smith had success while coaching Utah State (why he was hired at Utah). Maybe the secret to the future of Utah men’s basketball is to move the men’s team to the Mountain West.
It’s hard to get my kids interested in Utah men’s basketball when it will be at least 10 years before they make the NCAA again since I’m not expecting it this year. My…[Read more]

The funny thing is teams are probably over-complicating scouting us, specifically our defense. Our defense is comically easy to beat – we can’t stop dribble penetration at all. You don’t really need to run any complex sets to break us down; you just need to let your quick athletic guards drive by our slow/weak guards and it’s an easy direct path…[Read more]

Defense has earned the benefit of the doubt. My therapist says the offense from 2024 was actually just my imagination and any mention of it or something about TCU in 2010 should be ignored. I don’t care what the offense looks like, just as long as we don’t have to sit through another year of run for 2 against an 8 man box, run for 3 against a 7…[Read more]

With Larry K, for as much as the program was a dysfunctional dumpster fire by the time he got canned, you at least got better athletes.

I definitely don’t think NIL, or the lack thereof, is the biggest problem. I mean FFS, Utah State routinely puts better teams on the floor with less resources. Utah just has not gotten it right in the HC department since Majerus retired.

AZUTE replied to the topic Another 20+ point loss in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 week, 1 day ago
There has to be more to this problem than lack of NIL.
Utah has gone through 4 straight Coaches that have all been abject failures.
What is the common denominator?

There is no silver lining. What we’ve seen in the first three games of conference play is going to the same script that will be repeated game after game until the season’s over. The Utes are fatally flawed as a team and, once each game settle downs and the opponent adjusts, Utah really has no answer.

Oh, it’s not only that…Utah State has gone through multiple coaches, because they keep getting hired away, and starts with an all new roster, it seems like, every season. I have to give them full props for doing so much more with so much less than Utah.

You know…the MBB has all of the hallmarks of a mediocre team.
Game starts and they’re decent for a while. Then the other team adjusts to what Utah is doing and Utah either lacks the personnel or coaching know-how to be able to stay in the game. And thus, by the end of the game, what you have is another blowout loss.
I don’t think that…[Read more]
