I worry about Dampier tending towards “hero” ball. From his highlights, there were a number of times when he could have/should have given the ball to the RB, but kept it to run himself. This was also Huntley’s biggest problem and why Huntley’s best play came after he injured his knee and couldn’t run as much. A hero quarterback may have good…[Read more]

The Big 12 will begin releasing public availability reports for all football conference games starting this season, sources told On3. The Big 12’s athletic directors voted Wednesday to start using availability reports in football, men’s and women’s basketball league games, a source said.…[Read more]

Are we really expecting Beck to run a RichRod type offense? I know that’s what the numbers from New Mexico show but it’s not what Beck ran at Virginia or Syracuse.
Khalil Tate looked like a Heisman guy for 4 games until teams started taking his backside read away and forcing him to hand off or pass. The P4 teams Utah is playing this year should…[Read more]

There was a good #2 back getting carries, too, Omar Bacon.

Thanks for pulling that up. I was going to after finishing work for the day to try to answer my own question.
J. Williams is the surprise until you remember that from about game 5 on, Troy Williams couldn’t hit half his passes. Joe’s first game back was Oregon State (34 carries, 179 yards) and he had that great 5 game run with UCLA (29-332), UW…[Read more]

It can’t be that bad. It’ll only be September. It’s the November games you’ll want nothing to do with.

Now I’m toying with flying to Denver, then driving to Laramie, since I have to go back to Denver the day after the game.

I was curious about the last time Utah played Wyoming and did a web search. I ended up at https://utahutes.com/sports/football/opponent-history/university-of-wyoming/262, but it doesn’t look correct: (Guess I can’t paste in screenshots and I am too lazy to get it hosted somewhere. Just go to the link and look at the spreadsheet, if you want)

I’m going with my sons. I’m glad I had hotel points. The hotels cost 3x more than my previous stays. We are driving up Saturday and home Sunday.

To me, our success rides on how well Dampier really throws the ball. In order to truly have success with the RPO, the QB has to be a threat as a passer; otherwise defenses will stack the box and be successful with man defense. On the other hand, if we truly have a QB who can throw, two studs at RB, and a quarterback who is essentially another…[Read more]

I would be disappointed if we don’t have a clear lead back this year (and I’d be disappointed if it isn’t Parker). And if we do have a lead back, then they will likely get 15-17 carries per game like Bernard, Thomas, Moss, etc. did. Jackson would have gotten more carries if he wasn’t so injury prone (I think he was more in the 10-15 range).

I would be surprised if, after the experience of the past two years, they don’t run Dampier less than he was run at NM. I’d guess that will result in the RB’s getting more carries, and in more counters/sweeps with the wing-back/slot WR/TE. (I love that parts of Beck’s offense give me flashbacks to the wing-T).

Just wear a BYU sucks t- shirt and have a pint of whiskey in your back pocket and the Wyoming fans will embrace you.
I think the last time we played them was the last Urban Meyer year. Late night November game on national tv. ESPN had the whole crew and added lights. Overloaded the power grid and power was knocked out for an hour or two.…[Read more]

Thanks AI. With sections A-J on the west (visiting team) side and AA-JJ in the 2nd level, not sure what NDU-NJU means (maybe D-J upper meaning DD-JJ?) and no idea what NKU and NLU are. Section E is center behind the visiting bench – seems unlikely they would give that up. In any event, I think west side is the way to go since it’s not the same…[Read more]

Yeah, even during the Mac years, Mike Anderson only got a little over 20 carries a game on average, and the offense basically consisted of hand it to him a couple times, then chuck it downfield to Steve Smith. I would guess Parker and Rogers will each get 6-10 carries (probably 15 total), with the rest going to Dampier, or fly-sweeps. I don’t…[Read more]

Has Whitt ever given an RB 20-25 carries a game? Maybe Booker and/or White but that’s a decade ago
