It’s looking like starting in 2021 CFB players can profit off their likeness. What are everyone’s thoughts on how this will impact Utah recruiting in the future?

For me, i think it will create an even larger “the rich get richer” scenario than what already exists. Teams with larger fan bases in bigger markets will have access to more businesses willing to hire players or sponsor them or whatever.

Basically, what was already an incredibly difficult task for schools like Utah will be made even more difficult, in my view. I just don’t see how this benefits a small market school like Utah at all. Maybe someone can change my mind?

    Your points are ridiculous.

Point 1. He doesn’t think Larry is an “elite” Coach. It’s just AD speak. Harlan would have fired Larry already if it wasn’t for the buyout but as long as he’s stuck with him he’s gonna give him the proverbial “vote of confidence”. Harlan would very much like to put his mark on the athletic program with his people that he has hired in HC Coaching positions. Whit is untouchable but Larry is squarely in Harlan sites and very much on the hotseat starting next season now that Utah can afford to fire him.

    2. Larry’s fault. He’s put such a p**s poor product on the court attendance is way down and this is the result. If Larry wins and damand goes up they will reopen it. If there is a new Coach in 2021 my guess is it will reopen. Harlan understands the optics of closing the upper deck and he knows it’s embarrassing but again he has to be PC about it and blame it on dwindling fan support across the country not the crappy HC he was saddled with.

    3. Utah is a dumpster fire right now and has zero leverage with BYU. Pope in his first year was having one of BYU’s best seasons in a decade and in their way to the NCAA’s before C19 hit. You want Utah B-ball to big time BYU and the State legislators when right now they have zero power and influence to do so.

This Peter Costelli commitment got me all excited and I started perusing the roster and noticed something…

isn’t pretty much every D tackle on our roster a senior this year?

Do we have any d tackles that aren’t?  Who’s in the pipeline for 2021 other then the younger Fotu?

    also,

who the linebacker contributors that will join Devon Lloyd?  Lund is suspended so who knows if it’s him.

and the team will be looking for 3-4 others to contribute… thoughts??

Still has Summer school to finish but will enroll in the Fall or Spring (more likely) and be a part of the 2021 class.

If non-conference games are cancelled, how will the BYU series be handled?

This year’s game is supposed to be the return game in the latest home-home agreement with BYU. The next home-home agreement begins with Utah going to Provo in 2021 and BYU coming back to SLC in 2024.

Although most of us, myself included, would be fine with cancelling any game with BYU, I don’t think any of us would be okay with playing in Provo for back-to-back matchups in the series (2019 & 2021).

Would BYU be willing to move the 2021 game to SLC? Or does the 2021 game get cancelled as well to keep the series balanced and in line with what it has been the last 40 years or so (even years in SLC, odd years in Provo)? What other options are there?

I think the best idea would be to move football season to spring of 2021. Then in fall of 2021 start back as normal. Spring ball could be in December, start the season in February and end in May with bowl games? Use the spring games to scout talent for the NFL, no combine. Summer off then start up as normal for fall camp and games. Also allow 1 year relaxed rules on recruiting.

I would love a Colorado vs Utah game in April/May. Tailgating as it gets warmer by the week would be nice for once too. Also bowl games could become a destination if tied in with a family vacation.

Let’s say the Ute tribe big timed us for 1 year only and signed a 5 year deal for 2022-2027, leaving 2021 vacant, kind of like what our football team did to BYU a couple years back. Maybe the Ute Tribe had an anniversary honoring its ancestors and wanted to hold it’s name and heritage in house for 1 year. I’m guessing we would have the bird as the mascot but no logo or nickname for that year. But if we had to pick one for that year, like if it was an NCAA requirement. What would it be?

University of Utah Red Rocks? University of Utah Red Tailed Hawks? University of Utah Cutthroats? University of Utah Bubbles 2.0? University of Utah Brine Shrimp? University of Utah Jazz?

It would be cool to tie the University to the Mountains in some way but I can’t think of anything except for downhill sports names like the Super G.

I think how many of these recruits Utah lands will largely depend on how next season goes. If Utah has a similar season or better than last, then 2021 could be a top 25 or better class.

2021 recruits to keep an eye on for the next couple of months. All have Utah in their top 3 schools.

    4* WR Troy Franklin (CA)

    4* WR Keon Coleman

4* ILB Meson Tufaga (HW) expected 100% going to UTAH

    4* RB Byron Cardwell  (CA)
