He’ll just be a graduate transfer with one year left. Don’t think there’s that much going on. For next year, unless something strange happens, it’s Rising/Shelley/Lisk/Bentley. Powell won’t be available until 2021, if he plays QB at all, anyway.

FWIW, there’s traditionally a 1-yr lag in “performance” vs. “recruiting”!

I remember back on “Letter of Intent Day”, in Feb. 2005 wondering why our 2005 recruiting class was lower than I’d expected.  I’d assumed that our 2004 season was going to reel in huge 2005 recruits, and we even had a blue chip, 4-star QB committed (Josh Portis).  But then Meyer followed fmr-Pres. Bernie Machen to Florida, and Portis followed Meyer.  Our ’05 class wasn’t bad, but I’d thought it would have been better, and just assumed that it wasn’t because we’d lost our hotshot head coach.  It was then that the [remaining] coaching staff stated that good seasons have a larger impact on the high school Juniors, than they do with the Seniors, because the Seniors have largely already established relationships with the institutions that had been recruiting them the year before — while they were Juniors.

Fast forward to our 2008 season.  We went undefeated, won the Sugar Bowl, and finished #2 in the nation.  The ensuing ’09 class wasn’t much different from the ’08 class, but the ’10 class was one of the best ones in Utah Football history as far as “star ratings” go.  These examples suggest that our 2021 class will reap more benefits to our 2019 season than the 2020 class.  There’s a 1-yr lag.

It would be amazing to land him. He’s a 2021 kid so of the Utes show well for the rest of the year, they could make his top 5.

Utah offered almost every 5* kid out there. We know Alabama does that as a routine along with all of the so-called perennial programs. Over the last few years, Utah has been getting closer to landing one. The Utes have secured the services of more 4* kids and if the LB who transferred from UCLA clears his medical, Utah will have a 5* kid there.

I’m not sure how many 5* recruits have tripped to Utah, if anyone knows the rough number, please share. But here is a WR from California who appears to be focused on Pac-12 programs with the obligitory SEC schools we have come to loathe. See this 247Sports article about 5* California WR Troy Franklin’s Top 11…

Terrific. Great having a prized 2021 option.

Everything looks up post 2021 season. Still looking for P5s in 2025 and 2027. Link

Due to returning missionaries, it’s going to be a really small class from what I understand.  With a small class, our ranking is going to be lower no matter what (unless you manually sort by average rating).  There are a bunch of known recruits that are heavy Utah leans, and there is buzz that the recruiting has had some great changes over the last couple of weeks.  Plus, Whitt has said that the bump usually comes a year after success.  We had a decent year last year, but we sputtered at the end.  I think we’re generating more buzz for the 2021 class.  Regardless, we’re not going to have 5 star recruits lining up at our door just because we have a good season or two.  It takes time, and our recruiting has steadily improved since joining the Pac 12.  If we can land a few 4 star guys between now and February, then I’ll be feeling just fine….

@a2ute / Pace Manyung we have limited spots in this class thus the low ranking. My prediction – when the dust settles, we will have the highest grade ranking average per player than any other class. This is the biggest recuriting weekend of the year. Also, i would suspect that we have more four star recruits than we will have ever signed. I wouldn’t be suprised if we land 4 or 5 four star recruits which is good for our class.

Also – this years record will benefit the 2021 class more than the 2020 class.
