You’re correct.  He’d used his “redshirt” season at Texas back in ’18, and is thus sitting out his Freshman year this year due to the NCAA’s transfer rules.  That means that he’ll be a Sophomore in 2020, a Junior in 2021, and a Senior in 2022.

And I fully expect him to start next year.

There hasn’t been much talk about Rising because he wasn’t expected to be deemed “eligible” by the NCAA (via transfer rules).  It took the NCAA some time, but they’d finally ruled that he’d have to sit out the 2019 season.  That said, he HAD been practicing with the team — on the Scout team.  It’s said that he has an elite arm, and better-than-expected mobility.  He’ll be eligible in 2020 (Jr) and 2021 (Sr), and I fully expect him to start next year.

Bought a new tailgate tent before this game. Guess I’ll have to do that every week. Huntley has not thrown an INT all SEASON! Kicking game is still bad. Need work on offensive short yardage. One major dropped pass for a TD. Saw 7 bats flying around getting freaked out by the stadum lights. The refs blew a blatant intentional grounding call on WSU. Offensive line was way better but not sure that’s because of them improving or the talent level of WSU’s defense. Great job by the LB’s and DB’s. Sadly we’ve probably seen the last of Covey for 2019, but maybe that means 2 more years of his electricity in 2020 and 2021.  He’ll be about 40 years old by then… LOL.  So glad we won before a bye week. Traffic here dives if we lose and the people who do stick around start going at each other. Now we can all be happy for two weeks.

“Funny to note byu still averages more than RES holds.”

Not for long. RES will hold around 51K post South endzone renovation scheduled to be done by the start of the 2021 season. By then if the trends continue BYU will be averaging under 50K, possibly well under if they have any more 4 win seasons.

Thanks for not reading. I’m just looking for more flexibility and freedom to make our own choices and that they aren’t dictated to us by someone that shouldn’t have control over it. I’m not saying kill the game. I’m saying more flexibility in scheduling would be great like the thoughts of switching off BYU and Utah St. or occassionally having neither to enhance the schedule. I don’t like SJSU or NIU (both B games), but I think we would still have them with BYU or not. ABC scheduling. A=P5, B=G5, C=warmup (low G5, other low conference)

    2020 BYU, Montana State (C), Wyoming (B)

    2021 Weber St. (C), BYU, SDSU (B)

    2022 BYU, SUU (C), SDSU (B)

    2023 Weber St. (C), Baylor (A?), BYU (B?)

    2024 SUU (C), BYU, Baylor (A?)

    2025 Wyoming (B)

    2026 Houston (B), Arkansas (A?)

    2027 Houston (B)

    2028 Arkansas (A?)

See a pattern? BYU is filling the A spot rather than the B. But if they are the B, then adding an A make the schedule pretty tough. Are we going to play them in 2026 with Arkansas and Houston on the schedule? That’s a tough schedule that year. And with trying to get 7 home games when we have 5 PAC-12 games, it’s tough with a regular home and home. Goals should be: get to a bowl (6 wins), with PAC-12 South (means staying healthy), win PAC-12, make CFP.

On a last note, the rivalry is mostly church-culture based. And if anything is tired, it’s that. Being out of state makes it a lot better but is still annoying. I treat this game no different than any other B school we are playing. Win, avoid injuries. Do I travel for it? No. Did I travel for Michigan, ND, etc.? Yes.

    Agreed.

I woud love to have him on our roster and Utah was his school of choice since he was a small child.

I really feel worse for him being at BYU though, than us missing his talent for 2020,2021 etc.

Instead for playing Stanford, USC, UCLA, Washigton etc he’ll be playing U Mass, Toldeo, Liberty and the like.

And unfortunately for him most predictions say he’ll be 0-3 against Utah going into his senior year.

He has real talent, but he’s suffering more than we do.

    I feel bad for him.

I don’t see how our OOC is any different than the 2016 Washington team, who went to the playoff.  Seems pretty equivalent to ours this year, and future years if we keep TDS on the schedule.  They had Rutgers, Portland State and Idaho.  Rutgers can reasonably be compared to BYU.  Sure, they’re actually in a conference, but they haven’t been relevant for a long time.  The other teams are directly comparable to the FCS and G5 teams on our schedule.  This year it’s TDS, Idaho State and NIU.  I’d actually argue that ours this year is tougher than theirs in 2016, next year is TDS, Montana State and Wyoming.  Probably tougher than theirs in 2016 as well.  2021 seems similar.  We add SDSU and have Weber again, as well as the dreaded TDS game.  Similar games in 2022, in 2023 we drop a G5 and add P5 Baylor.  I don’t see what the problem is.  The formula is there to go to the playoff, and we have a precedent in the Pac-12.  Why deviate from that?  All it will do is cost you wins and injuries.

I bought a couple tickets through them last minute to the Utah @ BYU game two years ago – they sent me this email yesterday:

“Subject: Your Personal Account Rep at BYU

If Sitake wants to remain the head coach of TDS he has to win that game. Not to say he couldn’t do well enough after Utah loss to survive…that 2021 and 2022 schedule.  BRUTAL!!
