I’ve always thought Gary Andersen was at best a mediocre coach, and that’s a stretch. Barry Alvarez is no fool and pushed that steaming pile of nonsense out of Wisconsin before Gary could nose dive what was built before him.

This is year three and Gary is who he is. OSU is now burdened with his contract so they’re stuck with this steaming pile for a while, and that’s fine with me.

Gary Andersen contract extension to push salary over $3 million in 2021-22

I hope by now all the Gary Andersen hype will die, especially the Gary Andersen to Utah as HC.

I agree with this. Whitt is retiring after 2021, when he will be 62 yrs old. It is too early to say right now, but I can see Troy Taylor working himself into a job as our HC. The trick will be to keep him around for 4 years. We should be able to pay him more as our OC than he would make as a G5 HC (with few exceptions), so the only concern would be a P5 school going after him.

I also want Brian Johnson to succeed at UH. I would love to work him back into the program somehow, and he may have a few years as an HC by the time Whitt retires.

Scalley could be an interesting HC as well. He is exceptionally smart and also has a tremendous football IQ, but I can see him taking an HC spot at another school before the Utah HC spot comes open.

But the truth is we will most likely hire our next HC from outside the program. there is a good chance our next HC is currently coaching at an FCS school or even high school right now, clawing his way up the ladder. Who knows what the landscape will look like in 2021.

I think we as fans overthink this. Look at it this way. Going along with Puget Ute, you NEVER want a TRUE freshman starting as your QB. They just aren’t as good. Even at USC, Barkley was a disappointment as a true freshman. So was Rosen.

So, because of that, there is a 99% chance Huntley is your starter next fall.

So, what do you do with Huntley this year? I think no matter what, Huntley is the #2 QB. Whether Bateman or Williams starts, Huntley is #2. Heck, Huntley may be #2 no matter what, even if the #1 gets hurt.

I think you use Huntley the way that we used him in the Bowl game or the way that Urban used Tebow when Tebow as a true freshman. You get him in the game for 10-15 snaps, take advantage of his legs and give the defense something else to look at.

You then run Williams/Bateman as your QB for 60 snaps a game.

Then, next fall, Huntley is the #1 QB, a JC kid is the backup and you redshirt Tuttle and Shelley.

Then, in 2019, if Huntley was amazing he keeps the job. If not, open it back up.

    So, you look like this:

    2017 – Williams and Bateman (1 & 3) SR, Huntley, SO

2018 – Huntley (JR), JC kid, Tuttle and Shelley (Redshirt)

2019 – Huntley (SR) vs Tuttle (FR) vs Shelley (FR), JC kid, redshirt a FR

2020 – Tuttle (SO), Shelley (SO), some RS Fresh, redshirt another kid

2021 – Tuttle (JR), some RS SO, RS FR, redshirt another kid.

2022 – Tuttle (SR unless he is in the pros 🙂 ), etc.

Utah QB commit Jack Tuttle showed why he has continued to climb the rankings since a breakout performance at the Los Angeles Nike Opening Regional a few months ago. Tuttle has good arm, consistent motion, and puts the ball on the money. I think he has one of the highest floors in the 2018 class.

Trib says contract extended through 2018, but other outlets saying coach has signed an extension through 2021 worth about $11 million.

Yeah, good point. Because we are little brother and a small time school that can’t even get G5 schools to respect us.

I’d bet it is because that is just the way the seasons line up. For example, we have SJSU at home this year.

I am willing to give Krysko a mulligan on last year based off of his cancer and some unforeseen circumstances, but the pendulum is starting to swing far to the negative side for me as well. Its as if Larry believes that as long as he gets in a groove by the time his contract expires in 2021 that he can take his time.

He did a remarkable job his first 4-5 years, what has happened to that? There is no momentum in the program right now.

Gotta love that free market!  Spread that free market love all around!  Spray it out into the forest and the ocean!

Funny how the same people that get their panties in a bunch about subsidizing solar don’t have a problem with throwing billions at big oil.  These days solar is catching up with other energies, can’t wait for people to cry about dirty energy needing subsidizing.  “PLEASE GIVE US MONEY, MR GOVERNMENT.  WE CANT PAY SHAREHOLDERS, ER…FOR JOBS WITHOUT GOVERNMENT HELP!”  Gotta love that free market hypocrisy.
