2021- man that was tough, I know we had 9 in a row but it was sucky listening to them chirp that they didn’t lose in the pac that year

2019-that was fun as they really thought they had a chance to beat who I thought was our best team of all time

2018-the comeback game was easily my favorite of the bunch just seeing Shelly run in and run back to the sideline jumping up and down and then him flashing the 8

2017- I was in Provo for that one and didn’t say anything to the fans around me but they were all so..friendly, suffice it to say I’m glad we survived that one

2016-the 2 point conversion game was awesome! Sat next to a byu fan who was cool and we had friendly banter the whole game. Super fun

2015-the bowl game, I honestly believed we would score 70 on them but then we got more conservative than Ted Cruz lol

These are just my recent memories but man what a fun rivalry

This really shows how spoiled we have been in recent memory, but I am eighteen and a freshman down at the U. The only lost I have a memory of is the last game, I was 3 years old the last time BYU had beaten us before that game in 2021. So I do not know the pains of that the 70s and 80s brought, which my family always keeps telling me how lucky I am to grow up in this era. I am very spoiled, but as a diehard Runnin’ Utes fan I have nothing to boast about living in this era besides the few years with Kyrstoviak.

The Sport Gods value humility and doing things the right way, and I think we’ve done ourselves in, according to my superstitious fanatical thinking.

    1) The “10 is coming” hype might have jinxed us. Now, we’re facing the prospect of back-to-back losses to TDS. Remember the curse of Max Hall? We can’t let our arrogance turn this into a reverse situation.

    2) Mocking the Big 12 with truck stop references has been not only insulting but also embarrassing for our fan base. Now that we’re uncertain about bowl eligibility, what can we say? Apologies for belittling your way of life and hometown while we thought we had a superior football team.

    3) Having multiple strong running backs has always been key for Utah. We’ve typically performed at a B+ or A- level with a solid defense and a couple of standout running backs. While we’ve aimed for A-level performance through our quarterback, we seem to have overlooked the importance of the running game. Currently, Utah ranks 10th in passing, 11th in rushing, and 14th in scoring in the BIG 12, with just 15 passing touchdowns and 5 rushing touchdowns. UCF has 26 rushing TD’s to Utah’ 5 Rushing TD’s. Before joining the Big 12, Utah was first in rushing in the Pac 12 in 2021 (thanks to Tavion Thomas and his 21 TDs), first again in 2022 (also Tavion Thomas), and third in rushing in 2023 (with Ja’Quindon Jackson). I don’t understand why we thought we could deviate from our successful formula, but it’s clear we need to get back on track! We need to get back to the spread to open up the running lanes. The 3, and 4 TE set has clearly failed!

    4) Skipping the running back step and putting all the money into a single player must significantly wear on the team who has watched one player make all the money across several seasons while not playing.

These are my thoughts. The Sports God’s will have a humble fan base. We can choose to be humble, or they will compel us.

In the past our defenses have made freshman QBs look bad. Daniels at ASU and last year the 5* freshman from UCLA. You never know what will happen until they are put in the game. Some guys practice great but aren’t game ready and others aren’t great practice players but are game ready. Rose is in his third year so even though he hasn’t played much he isn’t a freshman by any means. He is in Cams shoes in 2021.

QB’s get hurt. It’s the nature of the position and why so many rules are in place trying to prevent it.

Since 2017, the only years the opening day starter didn’t miss at least one game for injury were 2019 & 2021. Huntley played hurt from game 4 on and Brewer was a concussion waiting to happen. That’s a 25% success rate and none of the QB injuries were lifting related.

Since the Utes joined the Pac12 the rivalry game became less relevant. The coaching and talent level switched to our favor. The result 9 wins in a row. We expected to win and they expected to lose.

Now the rolls are reversed. Suddenly the rivalry game is back and has meaning for both teams. For the first time in 15 years they are favored to win in our house no less. Brings back memories of the McBride era. We find ourselves in the underdog spoiler role. Whitt will have this team ready to play. Good time to send a message 2021 was an anomaly and a new winning streak begins. Go Utes

2021-2022 Cam isn’t walking out on the playing field again. Cam’s mobility and run game, a big part of his play, is gone. This was before his latest knee injury.

What is left is a field general that would have to win back his troops, smart but weak armed immobile QB.

Thanks Cam for giving us your everything. It’s best we all move on. Whitt won’t move on or move on easily because the QB position is still an unsolved mystery to him.
