2024 was the makeup year for not being allowed to play in 2019 based on the new rule. The medical redshirt would be for the 2023 season and need to go through the NCAA for approval.

Once you wipe 2019 and 2020 off the table as free years, you still have 5 years to play 4.

    2018 – redshirt
    2021 – redshirt freshman
    2022 – redshirt sophomore
    2023 – redshirt junior
    2024 – redshirt senior

It was always known that 2025 was available if Rising wanted to apply for it. The video is wrong.

My favorite Cam memories: The top two are both Pac-12 championship games. I was at both and they were both electric. I won $1200 betting on the Utes to win the first one. Next is probably the USC game where we went for 2 in the last seconds of the game and won by one point. I was yelling “NOOO! Kick the extra point and go into overtime you idiots!” Then seconds after we make the 2 point conversion, “brilliant call!!”

Next is probably the first drubbing we gave Oregon in 2021.

    Let’s hear yours!

Are you familiar with Michael Penix Jr’s injury history? If you’re not, it makes Cam look like the Teflon Man.

2018: Tore his left ACL three games into his freshman season – missed the rest of the season
2019: Right shoulder injury (Shoulder Clavicle Fracture) six games into his sophomore season – missed the rest of the season
2020: Re-tore his left ACL – missed the rest of the season
2021: Dislocated a joint in his throwing shoulder after five games – missed the rest of the season

He was a four-year starter at Indiana and only played a grand total of 20 games. He was injured so often that he had as many pass attempts in both of his seasons at Washington as in his entire career at Indiana.

Then, in 2022, he transfers to Washington, doesn’t suffer an injury in two seasons there, tears up the PAC, and parlays that performance into a 1st RD (#8) selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

My point is that Cam knows all this and probably believes that he still has plenty of football left in him. If id doesn’t happen in Utah, then it’ll surely be somewhere else.

Thanks for your leadership in 2021 and 2022. You led the team to two PAC 12 championships. The game in 2022 at RES against USC was amazing. You showed leadership, strength, and a ton of courage to lead the Utes to that win. That will always be one of my favorite games as a Utes fan.

I’m sorry that you have struggled with injuries. I was so looking forward to this season with all the new weapons you had. Unfortunately, you only played two halves healthy. I wish your career would have ended up on a more positive note. But, your legacy is still strong.

You have been a great Ute that will go down in history. I wish you the best going forward.

    Thanks, a loyal Ute fan.

I haven’t seen it mentioned, but then again I haven’t read every message since the game. Kuithe, Singer, and at least one other receiver/pass target showed frustration with Cam’s low throws on Friday. That alone should have been a clue to KW it wasn’t going to happen with Cam.

This quote from Kuithe, seems very appropriate. Kuithe, while still an outside shot for the NFL needs a QB who can throw the ball. Singer is also relying on the QB to be able to throw the ball.

The worst throw of the night not at the receivers feet had to be the throw that if lofted in the end one would have likely been a TD. But nope it was an easy interception. Cam needed to be benched much earlier. I will watch the Utah Utes take the field this weekend, as I mentioned my interest in the Cam Rising football team is non-existent. I love what Cam did 2021 and 2022, but 2023 and 2024 have been selfish by Cam, but enabled by KWhitt. Time to move on. And I’m ready for whatever happens. I think IW could lead us to wins in any of our remaining games, but we may drop another one or two.

Well, no one will ever be able to take the two Rose Bowl appearances and that electrifying TD run in the first one away from him. He was 1st Team All PAC in 2021 and that’s also something that no one will ever be able to take away from him. I sincerely hope that the school does something special for him in the last home game.

All that being said, that last sentence in Furlong’s tweet leaves the door open for a possible return. Stay with me on this…Cam McCormick a TE at the University of Miami is, wait for it, a ninth-year senior. He missed three full seasons due to injury and is still playing college football. It wouldn’t surprise if Whitt at least examines the possibility of a Cam return in 2025. And, as I read the regulation, Cam qualifies for a medical redshirt.

I doubt Whitt would do it but I’m seeing a parallel to what Harbaugh went through around 2020 at Michigan. He was underperforming expectations and close to being fired. The hammer came down and he kept his job under condition that he take a pay cut (I believe it was incentive laden but could be wrong) and overhaul his staff.
2021 he not only got the Ohio State monkey off his back but he put his team in the playoff 3 straight years, winning one.

Yeah, yeah, I know.,, “Utah’s not a blueblood like Michigan”, “Whitt’s done so much more than we ever thought possible”. It all comes down to whether you are okay with where you are at. And if the Utah football program is okay with averaging 9-3 and occasionally getting to a CCG based on the relative strength of their conference, keep doing what you’ve been doing. But if you want more, then you need to be willing to do what it takes to get there even if the risk of getting worse is just as likely.

Of course I’m making inferences because I’m not part of the team. But no one can deny that the bulk of the excitement prior to 2023 was based on having Rising running the same Ludwig offense as the previous two seasons and Kuithe leading the other skill players as his favourite weapon. I’m not going to relitigate 2023 but from my 30,000 foot view the offense didn’t adapt itself to fully utilize the remaining pieces.

2024 has been more of the same, with the same substandard results when viewed in the context of what the 2021/2022 offenses accomplished. That is what I mean by tying your fortunes to one player. Because if Barnes, Johnson or Wilson was producing 33 ppg instead of Rising’s 39 we would all agree that the plan was working as advertised but the others just weren’t able to quite run it as well as Cam. But when the results are half as good and there have been no obvious attempts to alter the plan.,,

A couple dumber questions :). With half the season remaining, Why is it so hard for Utah to move on from Cam Rising and is KW losing the trust and confidence of his players, maybe even some coaches? CR has been the best unavailable QB option to win football games for Utah over the past two years. The healthy (if possible) 2024 version of CR is not going to be the same healthy CR from 2021. Time to give IW the keys to the truck. CR’s done amazing things for Utah football and got paid for it. Time to move on and ride with the young gunslinger.

The high school ratings for the 2021 class were put together on shortened seasons due to Covid. It’s fairly widely recognized that those ratings were not as reliable as other years.
