Remember how Jayden Daniels looked against Utah? Terrible. Went on to have a great college run. Not saying Wilson’s gonna win the heisman, but I am saying he’s going to improve a ton as he plays more.

Jayden Daniels? How many times did we beat him?

I wouldn’t pick them personally, but of the 5 top favorites (Bama, Oregon, Texas, UGA, and Ohio State) they arguably have the best QB. That’s not to say that Gabriel is elite like Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels, because he’s not. It’s just that Howard is ok, Ewers and Beck are good but overrated, and Milroe is a wildcard. Milroe is a freak athlete and has a great arm, but he hasn’t put it all together. If he improves significantly under Deboer, Alabama could easily win it all.

    Jayden Daniels last year:

    3800 yards, 50 total TD’s, 4 INT’s.

    Rising’s best year:

    3000 yards, 32 Td’s, 8 INT’s.

Whitt just doesn’t rely on QB’s the way other schools do. Rising would have to really, really, really explode to do so.

Daniels threw for over 300 yards a game. He threw for over 400 yards and 6 TD’s vs a FCS team. Whitt would never allow that (which I think is dumb). Our QB’s will never put up the stats they need to compete for these awards because vs bad teams, Whitt shuts down the offense and tries to win 20-0 with 200 yards total offense.

We play SUU game 1. If Cam doesn’t put up 400+ yards passing and score 5+ TD’s, his heisman campaign is effectively over. You have to put up big numbers and if you will only pass for 200 yards vs high level teams, then you need to pass for over 400 vs bad teams to even the numbers out.

I don’t think Whitt would ever do that.

    !. Williams
    2. Maye
    3. Harrison
    4. Daniels

That’s the likely draft order. If the Bears don’t pick Williams, they’ll trade the pick to a team that will. Next up is the Commanders, who need a QB, and so will select Maye. After that are the Cardinals, who need offensive weapons now that they’re keeping Murray and thus will select Harrison. Last up are the Patriots, who also need a QB, and will thus select the best QB left, Jayden Daniels. In case you’re wondering about Penix and Nix, those guys are rated as the #20 and #22 best players in PFF’s Big Board and probably won’t be drafted until later in the 1st Round.

I think you nailed it. Barnes & Rising have similar skillsets: neither has a plus arm but they can make all the throws necessary for the college game, neither has gamebreaking speed but they are both willing and capable of moving the ball with their feet when required. And before some of you think I’m dogging Rising, I’ve also described Bo Nix who has been a Heisman contender.

The difference between Rising, Barnes (& Nix) is the decision making. No matter what anyone thinks of Rising, he makes quick decisions and they are usually right. Nix is the same, Penix is the same, Jayden Daniels is the same. In truth, Barnes is more like Caleb Williams in the decision making department without the out-of-this-world ability to avoid contact and plus plus arm. Barnes was probably as much better than his HS competition as Williams was (in relative terms.,, kinda like 4 is 2x greater than 2 = 12 is 2x greater than 6) but once they both moved up a level, only one could get away with it.

As for the coaching ability, college or pro stats have very little to do with being able to run an effective scheme. For reference, someone should check out Andy Ludwig’s QB stats as a player.,, trick question: Ludwig was a receiver in college playing in Pokey Allen’s system at Portland State which is as about as far removed from Utah’s offense as the Wishbone is from the Air Raid. The top passing offenses in the country, with the exception of Tennessee, aren’t run by guys who put up QB stats.

Because RBs as a position are expendable. Rising was 1st Team All PAC 12 in 2021 in the most important position in the field and would have been in the same area in 2022 if Nix, Williams, and Penix hadn’t parachuted in. In addition, if you look at JJ’s total production in the last two seasons, it’s just slightly more than what Jayden Daniels got this season as a QB. If JJ had produced stats like a Booker, White IV, or a Moss, in my view, you might have an argument. By the time the 2024 season rolls around, Rising will be well over 18 months removed from his injury and should be fully recovered. If you don’t believe that, just look at Penix who overcame four consecutive season ending injuries while at Indiana. 2018 – ACL, 2019 – dislocated the SC joint in his non-throwing shoulder, 2020 – ACL, and 2021 – dislocated joint in his throwing shoulder.

That’s just bizarre. Why would someone throw a massive NIL deal at someone who’s been injured for large parts of the season and had half the rushing yards as Jayden Daniels? It doesn’t make any sense. You’d think that he’d be happy Utah didn’t bring anyone in to challenge him for his starting spot. Oh well, if true, good luck to him but not all change is progress.

All I think of is the 25 passing yard game he had against Utah.

Don’t think that would have happened if didn’t transfer away from the Utah defense.
