I had a close friend who sat in one of the corners from his pics. He had a blast!  Said it was the loudest stadium he has been been to.
Wish I could have gone honestly. Floridans are some of the nicest people I have associated with.

There is a Ute Alumni associate tailgate which is $75/head.  After the awful food at the Utah tailgate at the rose bowl I’m going to take my chances elsewehre.

You seem to be a decent BYU fan and realize that much that is posted on the CB is in poor taste.  I have seen posts like, “If you are a Utah fan and live in my ward, I will not associate with you.”  How pathetic is that?

In any event, I have enjoyed your posts and as far as I am concerned – you are always welcome here.

By the way, you mentioned that there are other subjects on the CB that are good.  I believe this is true.  I got some good travel tips there and my son has followed some of the investment advice there and has had success.

I do have a question for you.  How can the CB stand behind ZW with what he has said and done and trash someone like Eric Weddle who is a good example?  Also, as far as I know, Eric has never trashed BYU, he just played for the enemy.  I am not saying they shouldn’t forgive Wilson, but I don’t get the hate towards Eric Weddle.

    Thanks for weighing in.

I would say Utah fans weren’t anymore insufferable or arrogant about the changing of the CF landscape than BYU fans are now. But I am also clearly biased!

Also we fully recognize Utah caught lightening in a bottle – but it was such a cool and one of a kind moment for us. Coming off of 2 BCS bowl wins in 4 years we felt like we got promoted from the little leagues to the pros, and the Pac10 at the time was a premier conference with an arrow that was pointing up. The Pac 10 did wonders for recruiting, money for the program, prestige, etc. We were associated with schools like Stanford, USC, Cal, etc. Damn right we were arrogant about it!

I fully disagree with the CB mentality of victim blaming (religious bigotry) as the reason why BYU didn’t get the call up early.

I do feel like the arrogance of BYU fans on CB is much more insufferable – y’all ain’t even officially play your first B12 game yet. Overall, BYU def is in a better place since the P10 will likely lose Or/Wash as soon as the B10 comes calling and there goes the end of the conference.

Would be super happy to join y’all in the B12 – hope that happens of course if the P10 folds.

Both BYU and Utah lose in the long run though with the consolidation of football to two power conferences – which is a shame.

You’ll really enjoy being part of a conference again – haha and hopefully understand why we all wore Pac12 gear early on.

Cheers and thanks for visiting – swing on by more often and we can run more rivalry smack!!

Tough to argue with your projections but I wouldn’t associate the word “shaky” with the linebackers. There’s just too much talent when you consider that the Calvert’s, Tufaga and Mata’afa are not in the top four. We’ve been spoiled the last two seasons but I think they’ll perform well. It may take a few games but I think they’ll be strong. I realize that we can’t afford to be mediocre against Florida but that may be the case. If it is, hopefully other position groups will step up.

By the way, I’m told that Diabate, Reid, Barton, one of the Calvert’s (don’t know which), Medlock and Furey are the top six and they are all playing at a high level. Communication has been an important issue. Scalley talked about it this week in an interview. He said something like the red zone communication in the scrimmage wasn’t where it needed to be but it’s been better this week in practice.

Utah had total football revenues of $65.6 Million for the fiscal year ending July 2020 (last year’s wasn’t posted yet, and the year before was greatly affected by Covid, so I went back two years.)

Utah Athletic Revenues and Expenses – 2020

Meanwhile, Utah reported $641 Million in research funding for the fiscal year ending July 2021.

So, yeah, thinking that presidents should be more concerned with athletics than academics doesn’t even make sense on an economics level. There’s a reason the Pac-12 presidents wanted to be associated with like-minded research universities. Academic prestige brings in a lot more than football prestige…

Agree. It’s time (actually past time) for the PAC to get aggressive and invite the top 6 Big12 teams (sans TDS). The B1G were aggressive in fetching USC and UCLA. You either act or get acted upon. I think the only holdup is the liberal northwest probably thinks they’re too good to associate with Texas and Oklahoma. If they continue being smug about inviting them, the PAC will collapse and Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State can look forward to joining the MWC instead.

I agree that I’d bet ESPN would rather the PAC survive over the Big12. They love their late Saturday night games too much (as much as I loathe them, since I’m out in Tennessee).

I am sure you are correct. I do find this quote on their Mission & History page, however.

TCU is the largest of 21 institutions associated by an ongoing covenant with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A protestant denomination with Presbyterian and Baptist roots, the Disciples’ vision statement speaks of “true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice.”

As things are changing, this Ute fan thought it would be appropriate to write an open love-letter to our conference mates, not knowing how many more times we may play them.  After all, the last decade has been the best of my football life.  Without further ado, my heartfelt feelings for each team:

Wazzou: The 28-27 loss to you and the Pirate was one of the most painful for me in the Pac-12.  Respect.  Give my best to Fresno, Nevada, and Utah State at your next stop.  Love the GameDay flag.

Washington: You guys are like the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of the conference.  I mean you made the playoff with Chris Peterson!  Great stadium, awesome scene, amazing recruiting opportunities!  And yet lately you can’t seem to get out of your own way.  Either way I love the purple unis.   Just keep owning it.

Arizona: Teach us the ways of your recruiting pool parties.  It got you Gronk, and we’re intrigued.  Sean Miller was such a sweaty cheater – – and I kinda love that you all embraced that and pretended not to notice.  Ha ha, that was fun.  As for football – – please try harder.  Let’s hold hands and skip into our new conference.  P.S. – ASU sucks.

Arizona State: Speak of the devil.  Todd Graham is a turd.  Herm Edwards is a double turd.  That illegal hit penalty on the kickoff?  Triple turds all around!  Simpsons got you guys right, and your campus full of future flight attendants can burn in the lowest circle of hell.  The Fiesta Bowl in your stadium January 2005 is literally the only positive memory I have of anything associated with ASU.

Colorado:  We joined the Pac-12 together.  We both were leaving abusive relationships (Nebraska, BYU), and although we became “paper-rivals” it felt more like a kinship than a rivalry.  Part of this, of course, is that we continue to beat you like a red-headed stepchild on the football field.  Another part of it, however, is that you just seem to be good folks, with a good school, who are pretty chill – probably due to the weed.  Much love, hope to see you on the other side.

Cal: Well, we’ve come a long way from Marshawn Lynch and DeSean Jackson haven’t we?  The Jared Goff Game Day game will always be in my heart.  And remember, there’s still no “Stanfordium.”  Like you, we are a righteous public institution flanked by a pompous private entity to our South.  Brothers for life.  Please don’t quit football.

Oregon: All sizzle no steak boys.  Remember that time we thumped you in SLC and you all spent two weeks talking about how that couldn’t possibly happen again?  Then we thumped you by almost the exact same score two weeks later?  Lol.  You’re all about the unis, and not about the testes (Sewell excepted).  War Boobie Hobbs still returning that punt.  You want to leave us, but you can’t.  You wish you could quit us.  But hey – love is love – and we are Brokeback Brothers.  Love – your “big spoon” Utes.

Oregon State: Nothing but love here.  You guys have my respect, and if there was a Pac-12 team I would cheer for if the Utes weren’t around, it’s the Beavs.  I feel for you with the Ducks, its like living with a big sister who is super rich from her OnlyFans account while you spend your days working on an assembly line.  Chin up, she won’t be pretty forever, and you know how to work.

Stanford: You trees always had a way of making us feel special.  Whether you were ranked or unranked, we seemed to own you.  Also, your band and student body share a loathing for a certain Team Down South.  For that, we will always love you – even if the football’s gone.  At least then you’ll be able to keep your band full of geniuses off the field in the middle of the game.  Please solve climate change.

USC: You are the Kardashian of the old Pac-12.  Famous for having a huge arse and a sex tape, right?  Certainly not famous for any football exploits recently.  You’ve been to the same number of Rose Bowls as we have in the Pac-12 era and same number of Pac-12 title games- just longer ago.  Not sure why you feel so good about yourselves.  You’re gonna turn Fox and the B1G Network into E! soon enough.  Then again, you’ve got the sweaters.  Aw gosh, we just can’t stay mad at you.  We’ll be following you on Instagram.  Let us be your Pete Davidson.  We’re skinny, kinda ugly, yet charming and somehow getting’ all the chicks.  That’s the Utes.  Let’s do this.  Bring us with you…. Please? Kim + Pete for life.  See ya Oct 15th – when we’re definitely gonna make orphans of your children.

UCLA: You guys make me laugh.  If USC is the Kardashian, ya’ll a little more like Mama June, know what I mean?  You’re on TV, you’re famous, you might be rich?, you lost the weight (moving to B1G), but dang.  The Rose Bowl was awesome, thanks for helping us get there.  Westwood is awesome.  I don’t think I could focus on football if I was in that environment either.  My love for UCLA was sealed when a student called a LA TV station during that big water-pipe break on campus, said his name was Alfred Slungpue, and told the news it was probably caused by somebody taking a huge dump.  BTW, you’re gonna get crushed in the B1G.  Call us for home and home, we like W’s.

This gives me hope. I have no idea what will happen, but absent a Big Ten invite, I really like the PAC affiliations and cities. I still feel like there is value in having my undergraduate degree institution associated with Stanford, CAL, UW, Colorado, Arizona, etc. But I understand it is about football markets.

Since the FOX bridge is now forever burned, I wonder if we will finally “sell” a portion of the PAC media company to ESPN that we were so set on keeping. I think it just made the PAC orphans with none of FOX/ESPN/CBS with any vested interest in us, other than the limited Tier 1 game rights that changed from week to week.
