I worked in Duchesne county for years. Ft Duchesne and Whiterocks (and a smattering of places around there) are what currently constitutes the Ute reservation. I can assure you all that 99% of Utes are die hard Ute fans if they care about collegiate athletics at all. Take one trip to the area and you will see VERY quickly how happy the Ute tribe is to associate with the UofU. They use the UofU ‘U,’ and UofU colors on just about everything in those towns. Heck, they named the local high school (not affiliated with the Ute tribe) the Utes, and have a U that is almost exactly identical to that of the UofU… and yeah, their colors are exactly the same.
I’m sure there are a few grumps in the crowd, but that is the case with every group.
Also, spend 15 minutes driving through the reservation, and you can immediately tell that the Ute tribe has far more important things to worry about than the UofU using their tribe’s name.
I’d reckon his “history”, like most things associated with BYU, is a little bit of fact with a whole lot of fabrication and exaggeration.
I agree with you completely. If I were running the church, I would get rid of all athletics associated with the church (everything from ward basketball to BYU-P athletics). Unfortunately sports brings out the worst in people, and images of athletes behaving badly is not what any church needs right now.
However, at BYU-P/Utah County there’s this weird intersection of culture and doctrine where people honestly think that BYU-P sports is essential to the church being true. The church culture in Utah County is as deeply ingrained as the church doctrine, which is why Utah County mormonism is so unappealing to most of the rest of us LDS folks.
A work associate asked me why the Utah/byup game is called the “holy war”? My first response was that it was a play on mormons vs non mormons but the fact that over 50% of Ute fans are mormon it really doesn’t make any sense.
Can’t really find anything using the google machine…
For what it’s worth. Very reliable source. Ulla is getting his associates on line form an AZ school. With the intent to enroll at utah 9/7/19 for immediate eligibility. He’s already redhsirted so he would lose a year. But has 3 more years to play. So 2 after this year. Could play this year if depth becomes a problem. I liked him at BYU. Whit likes him also.
While I completely love what Urban did for our program I believe he just needs to go away.
Someone that dreams of coaching Notre Dame? Seems ludicrous.
A non qualifier has to get his AA (associates degree) before he can be eligible
A fellow employee discovered Greninger had fallen into the machine, Kiessling told NBC News. The employee was prompted to check on the grinder after hearing strange noises coming from it, The Associated Press reported.

I was always planning on getting my education at BYU. After I got home from my mission, I went down to BYU to apply for the next semester, but I missed the deadline. I didn’t want to wait to attend school, so I decided to attend Weber State for a few years – I hadn’t missed their deadline – did so and got my Associates degree.
I was still planning on finishing up at BYU after Weber, but when I got married, my wife had a job in SLC and didn’t want to quit to move to Provo. I was planning on trying to talk her into moving to Provo and just finding a job down there – well, I knew that was not a good idea to win her over, so I casually, somewhat hesitantly decided to enroll at the U of U so my wife could keep her job. Anyway, I was majoring in Computer Science, and lo and behold, I found out the U of U had a superior CS program anyway, (one of the best in the nation in the early 90s), so I found a reason to be happy with my choice. Anyway, after attending my first quarter at the U of U, I switched loyalties pretty quickly.
