Be interesting to see if his title is associate or assistant.

Semantics. When Harding got the assistant HC title the release said “as Utah’s assistant head coach by head coach Kyle Whittingham”

Gary’s release says “the Ute coaching staff as an associate head coach and defensive assistant. “

I’m sure they’ll both be listed the same

I just don’t understand this at all. Especially the associate head coach part.

“Defensive Assistant / Associate Head Coach”, whatever that means.

I don’t know how to feel about this after the way he preformed at OSU (not to mention the way he left). But he deserves the benefit of the doubt, I guess. Just don’t let him text anyone.

He is good at developing D-Lineman, which certainly looked like a need after this season.

    Go Utes!

The current ASU AD used to be his agent, and the current ASU Associate AD was his agent at another time.  Suddenly the hire makes incredible sense.

To be fair to Coach Edwards, I have to believe he will be a solid recruiter just because he is an excellent on-air personality.  He is charming and engaging, and all of the recruits and their parents have seen him on ESPN for the last 8 years. Herm Edwards walking into a recruit’s home will be like meeting a celebrity.

    http://www.osubeavers.com/news/2017/11/29/jonathan-smith-named-oregon-state-head-football-coach.aspx

Smith is the first OSU graduate to serve as a Beaver head football coach. He returns to Corvallis after a highly successful stint at the University of Washington as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.  Smith spent the last four years with Washington, helping the Huskies to the Pac-12 Conference 2016 championship, an appearance in the College Football Playoff and ending the year with a No. 4 Associated Press Poll ranking. Washington earned a share of the Pac-12 North division title this season, and is ranked No. 13 in the nation while awaiting its selection to a bowl game.

To piggyback on this statement, I would be elated if I didn’t have to hear all the hate that is associated with sports in general, especially for the non-professional athletes.  There is absolutely no need to spew hateful and overly aggressive statements about individual players.  Life is hard enough without surrounding ourselves with negativity.

Many will likely disagree, citing the fact that it is the player who chooses to play the game; however, nobody functions at a high rate under the pressure of negativity.  You choose to have a job/career, but that does not give your superiors/colleagues justification for them to berate you.

Criticism and debate are welcome, and necessary, in any profession/endeavor.  Hate and constant negativity are not.
