ParticipantI totally read that as Cincinnati Bearcats and thought to myself, why would he leave for a smaller program without at associate head coach title? Then I realized it’s for the Bengals. My bad.
Would hate to lose him, but would love to seem him continue his success.

ParticipantDidn’t read but if it is about grooming the Associate Head Coach to take over for Whitt it is a pretty easy inference to make. Why else do you give GA a title he doesn’t deserve since most of you agree HE WASNT a great HC.

ParticipantAlso the Associate Head coach title. A guy like Dennis Erickson didn’t need a fake title. It is odd I am not understanding the U’s motivation in bringing in a guy who left OSU under EXTREMELY questionable circumstances. He literally has nothing to demand yet you give him a title as if he is being groomed to be a head coach someday. The argument that he didn’t make it as a head coach becomes absolutely moot.

ParticipantNot HC material yet in title he is Associate Head Coach. I think Scalley is fine to handle the situation but it will be interesting to see how he responds.

ParticipantI think the actual title is “associate to the head coach” ala Dwight Schrute.

Sweetness
ParticipantOn the contrary, I think it would cause a drastic improvement in OOC scheduling. Teams would no longer be worried, or would be less worried about having an OOC loss, knowing if they win their conference title they are in.
I do think OOC would feel a little less meaningful, but the conference season and division races would be so much more compelling. I think having a guaranteed auto bid that every conference is competing for would be so incredible to follow. The last few weeks of the regular season for two and three loss teams would be so much more meaningful than they currently are.
There are so many positives to an 8 team auto bid model that I think they easily overcome any negatives associated with OOC scheduling.

ParticipantSemantics. When Harding got the assistant HC title the release said “as Utah’s assistant head coach by head coach Kyle Whittingham”
Gary’s release says “the Ute coaching staff as an associate head coach and defensive assistant. “
I’m sure they’ll both be listed the same
