Rose to the portal. Wilson staying? Beck bringing a QB? what are we thinking?
-
XanthisParticipant
This sucks. Utah better plan on bringing in at least 2 portal QBs with how fast we chew through them.
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
Probably three unless Huard is staying, and Beck thinks he’s serviceable.
-
PAC12TeamsParticipant
Dang! And He had just learned the playbook…
-
Ute DubParticipant
Ludwig’s playbook?
-
-
-
BDParticipant
Ugh. Hopefully this means a good portal QB is coming in.
-
AnferneeParticipant
Definitely means Beck is bringing his guys with him.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
let’s see, Wilson goes to portal and Rising decides to pick up his checks elsewhere and the Andy Ludwig stink will be completely gone from the team. Beck can build out his whole room based on his philosophy and not someone else’s leftovers. That’s actually a pretty good way to start a new job, even if you are limited in how you do it by your boss. Which is no different than any other job in the world
-
ladyinredParticipant
That really sucks. He was great for the one half we got to see him healthy.
-
jshame17Participant
Damn, but I Don’t blame him. He was done dirty by Whitt & Lud.
We have Wilson (?), Huard (?), Rising (?), Dallen Engeman currently on the roster.
We picked up Wyatt Becker and Ficklin this week.
I think we carry 6 QBs, so we have room for 1 currently, and up to 3 from the portal depending on Rising, Huard and Wilson decisions.
-
GameForAnyFussParticipant
Why is anyone even surprised? At this point, you have to assume that any player who hasn’t been an everyday starter – on any team – is going to the portal.
-
jshame17Participant
Only because he should and would have had a chance to be the starter with Beck coming in.
But you’re mostly correct.
Also, every starter that has a breakout season outside of the P4, will be in the portal looking for a payday and that sucks for so many programs.
-
GameForAnyFussParticipant
Most players don’t want the chance to be the starter – they want to be told they are the starter. That’s the biggest way in which the portal is harming student-athletes.

This is the most painful one so far. This hurts.
-
jshame17Participant
I agree.
It feels like we are starting from scratch at QB (Depending on Wilson, but the room needs DEPTH), RB, WR and TE.
-

RoboUteParticipant
The quarterback that would’ve probably delivered us 8 wins gone because our washed up sabateur of a coach is allergic to making the correct decision about anything quartback related.
Whittingham earned this. I hope our quarterback room clears itself out because no young man deserves what whittingham will do to their career. Now even OCs know not to touch a whitt team with a 10 foot pole
-
AnferneeParticipant
Except we’ve brought in a damn good OC who’s QBs quarterbacks have averaged 3,300 passing yards and 509 rushing yards, for an average of 3,809 yards of total offense per season. Who just had the #4 total offense in the country. And he’s bringing guys with him. I love Rose and his toughness but Jason Beck will have this offense humming.
-
NashvilleUteParticipant
Beck might be a good one, but I wouldn’t call him a damn good OC until he’s faced a recent P4 defense and is recruiting in the current portal/NIL environment.
I’ll admit, I need to go and review his pre-New Mexico offense results, but I refuse to use the New Mexico stats as a reference for results in the Big12.
Losing Rose hurts. He should have been QB2 behind Rising no question. We’d at least be in a bowl game if that was the case.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
I feel like your certainty that Beck will cure all that ails Utah needs an @Caliman level guarantee to really sell it
-
RoboUteParticipant
I loved the hope I felt when I read this exact same thing about Troy Taylor.
-
-
-
UM4GParticipant
Ouch. Was really looking forward to watching him as a Ute. If Beck brings his QB it could be good, the 12 passing TD to 12 INT ratio is not great, but the 19 rushing TD’s is exciting.
-
AnferneeParticipant
Dampier averaged 7.5 yards a carry. #1 in the nation
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
I’m sure Vanderbilt fans will love Dampier once he signs with them to replace Pavia
-
-
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
This one really sucks even though I am not surprised by it at all.
