#13 Chase Kennedy and Nate Johnson

Kennedy and Johnson, a famous combo from the 1960s…

Chase Kennedy, Freshman DE, 6-3 223

Kennedy comes to the Utes from Dallas, not from Daley Plaza, but from Episcopal HS where he played RB and DE.  He’s a big play guy on defense who logged 18 tackles for loss, 6 forced fumbles and 2 defensive TDs in his senior season, 2021.  That earned him Southwest Preparatory All-Conference and helped the Eagles go 10-1 and to the SPC 4A championship while holding opponents to 20.5 pts per game. He also played basketball for the Eagles.  At Utah he’ll have to work hard to get playing time, but sounds like an exciting player for the future.

Nate Johnson, Freshman QB, 6-0 191

Nate is a 4-star QB recruit out of San Joaquin Valley, Clovis, California.  At Clovis, Nate was a dual-threat QB who, in 2021, amassed 1,672 yards (118-of-189) and 12 TDs and also had 94 carries for 812 yards (8.6 ypc), scoring 8 TDs on the ground.  He also was the CIF Central Section Champion at 100-m dash.  He accomplishments in football and track earned him CIF Central Section Athlete of the Year, and a 4-star rating as a QB recruit.   As a newcomer at Utah he’ll probably be in learning mode and a scout team QB in 2022, but seems like he has a lot of potential for the future.
