    Team (worry 1-10, 10 being worried they blow us out)
    @UCLA (6) – solid team, but it’s going to be more about if we get the offense clicking. we typically have slow starts and it is on the road to start the season. will be a REALLY good indicator of how the season will go
    Cal Poly (1) – blowout, get the 2nd team in
    @Wyo (2) – mostly worried about pee bombs
    TT (6) – solid, but at home
    @WVU (7) – long way to travel, Rich Rod is back
    ASU (9) – I think Skattebo loss will hurt more than people think. Leavitt Soph slump will have them with a qb controversy
    @BYU (7) – definitely worried and is at LES but I think their 2024 luck makes this a typical rivalry toss-up
    CU (5) – not sure, but I feel like there will be a dropoff, OL will still not be good and defense won’t be great
    Cinci (3) – I don’t know much about them, but don’t think they will be good or like to travel this far
    @Baylor (4) – I don’t know if they’ll improve, but we beat them even last year
    KSU (6) – could be a tough game – Avery Johnson is back and I respect his game
    @KU (6) – depends, but beatable – Jalen Daniels is back and I respect his game

  Seems like an okay schedule outside of playing ASU and Zoobs consecutively. At least ASU is at home. Why doesn’t the BIG 12 schedule the BYU game later in the season?

    There are only a few protected rivalries and Big 12 has always spread them out rather than put them all on rivalry weekend to try to get more viewership.

  No favors really at all. I guess giving Utah a bye before ASU is the best one. Road closer in Kansas is pretty lame as well.
  
  Doesn’t really say renew your season tickets now that is for sure. Maybe if Whitt was a little more transparent about practices and getting media or fans access.
  
  My excitement level from tansferpalooza is kind of worn off I think. Cold hard reality of Big12 season is setting back in.

    Yeah, I’m still unenthusiastic about the Big-12. At least we still have UA, ASU, and CU. And I like being in conference with BYU and TCU. The rest I don’t care about.
    
    Conversely, I cared about every team in the Pac-12 one way or the other.

      Utah doesn’t play Arizona this year.
      
      I hate being in the same conference as ybu-p.
      
      I don’t mind so much reuniting with TCU though.

  Anyone interested in traveling to any away games? I’ve never been to the state of West Virginia- could also possibly be combined with a Steelers game. Kansas could be combined with a Chiefs game. I honestly think it would be fun to go to the Wyoming game. Those Cowboy fans are rough!

    Wyoming is just 2 hours up the road from me, so thinking about it, but already have a conflict that I have to consider.
    
    Might go to Baylor as my Senior is planning on moving to San Antonio to work and live with bio-family for a little bit and could be a good time to visit and see how things are going/move her back home lol.
    
    Might drive to Kansas, but will depend on exact date and weather and it’s right around my anniversary (why was I so stupid to get married Thanksgiving weekend/during football season?!)

  Yeah, transparency is going to fix the problem…
  
  This schedule inspires nothing, the fact that the league is hell bent on making sure there are no rivalries developed by rotating every 4 years is a head scratcher. Pods, divisions, or anything would be better than this.

  Beat BYU! After last year if they can do that the season will already be better.
  
  With the transfer portal who knows how any of these teams, including Utah, will be next year.

  An away game at UCLA is going to be a good test of what the Utes have rebuilt after last season. UCLA has not been great, but are solid name program to go against.
  
  Was really down in the dumps after that losing streak and QB merry go round of 2024, but for some reason I am getting into seeing what Dampier and the new OC bring to the ailing Offense.
  
  The Spring game is going to be interesting, even if it is pretty vanilla in play calling.
  Hope springs eternal.

    I feel like you get a great idea of what Utah is made of quickly. I am trying to get the time to do that. Difficult with my kids school. That is literally the most exciting game right now. I really don’t have any hype for the season though.

    Especially in a year with 5 Big 12 home games. I guess with home-and-home swaps, it just works out some years that we need to be away for 2 non-conference games. To have 7 home games, you generally have to be paying the other team or getting 2 patsies. But we generally have tried 1 patsy (Cal Poly), 1 G5 (Wyoming), 1 P4 (UCLA).

    Well these are things I would ask of Harlan for sure. I think this is on him mostly.
    @Laramie don’t mean to be snotty but why? Why are the Utes going to Laramie?
    Only 3 OOC games? Why are we doing the failed P12 model again?
    I don’t like TDS at all. Don’t want to play them. But playing them in November is the best case outcome. Instead @Kansas?

      You have good points but two of them probably would probably need to be addressed to Yomark as Harlan has limited control. I’m not either of those guys (thank goodness, but I would like the salary) but I’ll take a stab at their replies (does not necessarily mean endorsement).
      
      1. @Laramie sucks but if you were in the PAC12 (RIP) ACC, or BIG 12, the standard is home-and-home with, typically regional G5s. It’s weird that the Utes go to Laramie first but far from unprecedented. Utah probably could/should have picked a better recruiting location for their G5 h/h but, a) with the transfer portal/NIL, does it really matter anymore; and , b) many fans have expressed a desire to use our G5 games to see old MWC opponents in out OOC.
      
      2. This question is for Yomark. Currently, the Big12 plays 9 conference games so Harlan only had three that could be scheduled (though, cfb games are scheduled so far in advance, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these were scheduled under Hill. I mean, we’ve got games scheduled as far out as 2033 – and that game was scheduled in spring 2021, but I digress…). There are theories as to why the Big12 and Big Ten are still doing nine conference games while the ACC and SEC do eight but that’s a different point for now.
      
      3. Yeah, I don’t like playing BYU either but this is another Yomark question. Harlan had little to no control over it. The one request Utah really could make (and always has requested) is to not play on the first weekend in October. Otherwise, the Big12 does not do ‘Rivalry Week’. The belief is that they are better suited for TV ratings to have those rivalry games scattered on the schedule rather than having them all face each other as well as facing Alabama-Auburn, OSU-Michigan, etc. on tv at the same time. FWIW, the Big12 only considers 4 games protected (every year rivalries): UA-ASU, BYU-Utah, Kansas-Kansas State, and Baylor-TCU. I don’t like it, either but if you asked Harlan, all he could say is, ask Yomark and the conference.

  Nothing tells the fans where your program sits in the pecking order of college football more than scheduling a pre-conference game at Wyoming.
  
  Please don’t tell me that we are traveling to Cal Poly (whatever that is) in the future.
  
  OK- I am going to draw a line in the sand here: If we schedule a home and home with Wyoming Poly, then we will really have to reconsider our position.

    Yup, only those slack jaw programs like Texas, Texas Tech, Nebraska and several other P4 schools play Wyo out of conference in home and homes. I love the hubris and delusion but Utah is legitimately 15 years removed from relying on those home and homes to build SOS. The P5 home and homes mixed with one and done games with top BCS teams built the credibility of the program before the PAC12.
    
    Also, not sure if you have paid attention but none of the FCS programs ever get a return game…

  It’s much harder for me to imagine plunking down big money for season tickets when there’s no USC, Oregon, Washington, Oregon State, Stanford…. dang. I guess I did it last year, and the previous 30 years but they should seriously reduce the CC and ticket costs. I know they won’t, but they should.

    Big 12 studios on Instagram referred to Utah Football team as the “Runnin Utes”. To me it would be like calling the Football the Redrocks.
    
    I know it is social media network but it is just a bad taste in my mouth. I hate the big12 so bad.

      Agreed on you points there. It is a pretty easy get to LA, the Bay Area, heck even the Oregon schools with plenty to fit in beyond the game. I’m considering going to the UCLA game, then spending a day or two on the coast over the holiday weekend. Nothing else though, frankly RES is becoming too pricey for the experience it used to be when USC came in for their beatings.

  I’m still nonplussed about the Pac-12 imploding, and resulting in our migration to the Big 12 (I would have preferred the ACC), but as far as we’re here…
  
  …I like the flow of this schedule. Here are the reasons why…
  
  1. There are no back-to-back roadies.
  It goes without saying that the probability of a “win” decreases the further away from SLC the team has to travel.
  And especially where time zones are crossed. Win probabilities in back-to-back roadies decreases exponentially.
  
  2. We open the season vs. a P5 opponent.
  I’ve long complained about opening the season vs some overmatched, weak SOS, FCS opponent. They are NOT a good
  warm up opponent. They’ll only get blown out, NOT show us any weaknesses we’ll need to improve on before
  conference play starts, and leave our team feeling overconfident in our next game.
  
  3. We play 5 games to open the season, get a bye, then 4 games, then another bye, then close the season with 3.
  This looks advantageous for us, as we’ll have fewer injuries early in the season, than we’ll have by late season.
  As the season wanes on, durability will take its toll, and the bye weeks appear to be timed perfectly.
  
  4. We get Ariz St, Colo, and Kan St at Home.
  And it doesn’t hurt any that we’ll also be getting Tx Tech at RES either. ybu-p on the road is less of an issue
  as it isn’t as though our athletes will be needing to adjust to a different time zone, or deal with any long
  plane rides. It looks as though the toughest portions of our schedule will be at Home. The only real glaring
  drawback that I see, is that we’ll have to play Ariz St, ybu-p, and Colo in back-to-back-to-back weeks. Plus,
  both Ariz St and Colo get bye weeks in the weeks leading up to the Utah game. Yormark’s gotta get his digs in on
  Utah somehow. I’m surprised he didn’t give the zoobs that seem privilege.
  
  As far as “Utah scheduling” is concerned, I’ve seen much worse.

  I’m always a 16-0 kind of fan. But really, I don’t see anyone on the schedule we can’t beat. I hope we stay healthy, and we have players mesh in the off season. None of the home games conflict with my personal schedule and there are two games I will attend on the road. Go Utes!!!!
