If you could take one PAC-12 era Ute and add them to this 2018 team with only one year of eligibility, who would it be? Also, you’re not allowed to double up and pick someone currently on the roster.
I personally find it interesting to note that some of our highest drafted players might not be the best picks for this team. Guys like Marcus Williams, Devontae Booker, Joe Williams, etc. all fill positions we are stacked at. As such, I’m leaning toward Garrett Bolles or Nate Orchard.

Bolles 100%

Bolles’ talent and position yes 100%. But don’t forget he was a false start machine while he played for Utah. I presume with this mental game we take them the way they played at the time.
-
UteDukeParticipant
I considered that as well. I might pick Isaac Asiata over Bolles just for the sake of consistency and avoiding those troubling penalties.

Probabaly should make it one offensive player and one defensive. 🙂

I like this post, and I’m going to play by Tony’s rules.
Defense: Nate Orchard (Gionni Paul if Pirtle/Bernard don’t make it on the team).
Offense: Darren Carrington -
UtahParticipant
Garrett Bolles on offense. Bolles at LT and Barton at RT? We’d have one of the best OL’s in the country.
Defense would be Orchard. He and Anae would make our DE’s top 3 in the country.
If I had to pick one it would be Bolles. We’d be a lock for south champs with him, Barton and Falemaka.

Offense – Carrington. WR is the question mark on the offense, Carrington and Covey (assuming he returns to FR form) would be an incredibly productive duo. Honorable Mention – Garrett Bolles
Defense – Nate Orchard. He was a sack machine, we’ve been lacking in that area lately. Orchard had almost as many sacks himself in 2014 (18.5) as we had as a team in 2017 (25). Honorable Mention – Star Lotulelei, Jared Norris, Hunter Dimick -

Trevor Riley on Defense
Jake Murphy on Offense, TE is probably the least experienced position on the team.
and Reggie Dunn for Special Teams. Imagine how special Special Teams would be with him added into the mix.-
RiseasUtesParticipant
I think you’re underestimating Vickers, Covey, and Lewis as return options. Add in Wishnowski and Gay and we may have the best special teams set up we’ve ever had.
Dunn and Clay were great for us, but we have some great players at the return spots this year.
-
UtahParticipant
So much this. If Covey is Covey, then holee shee-oot.
-
Ute_tasticParticipant
I added Dunn for Special Teams to mix up the conversation a little. If you were going to bring back one PAC-12 era Special Teams player to add to the current roster I think that it should be Dunn. It’s not a knock on who’s on the roster, it’s about bringing back a record setter.
-
UteDukeParticipant
I hadn’t thought of Dunn! That is saying something too, as I was at the Cal game when he ran back the two 100 yard returns and it has been one of my favorite Utah football experiences to witness in person.
A special teams unit with Gay, Wishnowski, Covey, and Dunn would be otherworldly. (Although it might be anyways if all works out)

That’s a list of 4 All Americans and 3 of them will actually be on the field this season.

Star Lotuleilei. He forced double coverage nearly every play at Utah.

I have the perfect player, and it’s not who you would expect.

You didn’t say that it had to be a former football player, just someone from the Pac12 era. I’m actually only sort of joking. I mean, he’s 7 feet tall, has a 40 inch vertical, and I can count on one hand the number of times he ever mishandled a pass. He’s also exceptionally nimble for a guy his size, and he has excellent footwork.
I would redshirt him while he got his body and mind ready for football… THEN I’d use his one year of eligibility to solve all of our redzone woes just like THAT. He would also be spiking line drive field goal attempts into the dirt like he did in his volleyball playing days.

I was just going to say this is a huge miss by a lot of people. He’s definitely the best LB we’ve had in the PAC.

I think that you could take any one of Nate Orchard, Hunter Dimick, or Trevor Riley and play them opposite Bradlee Anae and Sack Lake City is back. I liked Trevor because of his versatility and leadership and I was thinking outside the box a little.
