I am more convinced than ever that we should never play BYU in football. We may be on an 8 game winning streak, but we never play our best football against these guys. Some think that these games are great because they are close. I think that these games are typically odd. We rarely play our best football. I am not sure it its the emotion or what.
I will say that BYU had a good gameplan and was well prepared. It reminded me of their Wisonsin game where they came out and slugged them in the face. They did the same to us and we looked surprised like we didn’t know these guys could be so tough. I hate the way we played the first 40 minutes. But, some of the credit goes to the Cougars. They came to play and played well.
Zach Wilson looked very good IMO. He is slippery when he scrambles and throws a nice ball. He made a few mistakes as all QBs do at times, especially a freshman. We made a huge mistake last year when we didn’t recruit him because of Tuttle. But, that’s water under the bridge. We will have to deal with him for three more years. If BYU gets a good RB and some good receivers, their offense could be good.
We will have to play much better next Friday to be competitive. Gaskins will have a record day against us if we play like we did for the first 40 minutes. We let Hadley of all people run through us last night. That was not pretty.
Congrats to a team that did not give up. I did, but they didn’t. It was not our best comeback ever. But, it was probably the most significant comeback in Utah football history.

Exact opposite. That game needs to be played and is great for preparing this team for next week. Brigham has a solid defense and really tested a team that thought this game was going to be a cake walk. Loved every minute. Excellent game.

As I said, some think this game is great. We all have different opinions and I respect your thoughts. There is no wrong or right here. But, my opinion is that we get nothing out of this game and we never seem to play our best. As for me, I would rather use this game to play a top P5 team. But, that’s just me. In the end – my opinion really doesn’t matter.
Go Utes!!!

The CFP always harps on OOC schedule. What other team plays so many different conferences and often pulls out an upset that’s close in proximity and willing to schedule Utah consistently? Utah needs to play them for that extra data point if the Pac12 is going to continue playing a 9 game conference schedule. If the games close, great, enjoy it. Who wants an empty stadium in the 4th quarter because of a blowout?

We need BYU to be better for it to be helpful. If they were consistently an 8+ win team or affiliated with a major conference, I would have fewer reservations in scheduling them, but right now, the only benefit I see is travel cost. They are not seen as a great win by the outside world.
