Looks like the Tide is starting to feel the heat. The thing is that Alabama is one of the poorest states in the nation. It’s one thing to root for the Tide/buy tickets to games, etc… and quite another to straight up give money to athletes.

You mean fight back against the pay for play they were always a part of back before everyone could?

You mean the same AD that after the playoff committee kept them out, said maybe they’ll have to schedule an easier out of conference schedule? When the fact is none of their losses were out of conference so it had zero impact on why they missed out of the playoffs.

Not to mention, as we all know, the SEC plays fewer conference games, and so they schedule a gimme game in the middle of the season. Heck, who knows, maybe of the played that 9th conference game and won, they’d made the playoffs.

Believe me, no one is crying for Alabama except for Alabama. They’re just p**sed that the stasis has changed and they no longer hold all of the cards. If the name of the game now is money, and it is, the only advantage that schools in poor states like Alabama have is the money they receive from the networks. For example, the Boulevard Collective (SMU), is second only to Division Street (Oregon) in the number of well-heeled members that can write check after check. The next phase of college football might signal the emergence of a number of odd bedfellows who rise to the top purely due to revenue streams not associated with network money and the demise of Bluebloods who can’t keep up in the spending arms race. Kind of like the Cold War where the US outspent the Soviet Union to death.

It would be nice to see a change at the top and see the SEC exposed for top heavy and playing a weaker schedule.

Watch out for UNLV. Dan Mullen may turn out to be the Rebel football version of Jerry Tarkanian. UNLV won’t be short of cash to pay players and Mullen knows it. At some point we’ll see the West regroup regionally especially with the fading relevance of academic arrogance from the UC schools. The current cross country conference realignment is not sustainable.
