While I don’t think he will, there are some major programs looking for coaches and not a lot of great coaches out there. I’ve got to think Whit’s agent is getting a few calls from major programs like USC, LSU, and Florida – among others. If some program throws a bunch of money his way, any chance he could bolt?

Yes

He’s not going anywhere. He’s too close to retirement to make a multi-year commitment to another program.

Yes you are. He could’ve left for USC a long time ago.

😂 Yes. That ship has sailed. Whitt has 2 maybe 3 if we’re lucky years left and then he’s done. He has said many times that he doesn’t see himself coaching past 65. He turned 62 yesterday. My guess. He coaches 2 more years and then has a final transition power last year. Or maybe done after the second.

I could see him going after this season. Especially if we win the Pac12 and Rose Bowl.

If he does this, he will have won conference championships in two leagues with the same team, and won half of the new year’s six. Already the winningest, he would definitely go out on top.
The question I have is how bad does he want to make the playoff?

UtesbyfiveParticipant
God bless him, he actually wants to retire at retirement age.

Tell me you haven’t been paying attention to Utah football for the last 20 years, without telling me you haven’t been paying attention to Utah football for the last 20 years.

Sorry, but, I don’t think he’s going anywhere. He’s got quite a young core of fellas I’m sure he wants to see develop. If the cupboard was bare, I see your concerns.
-
Utah5410Participant
I think if utah makes it and wins or is competitive in the Rose Bowl with the young group we have and CR for two more years Whit sticks it out and tries for the playoff. I think Whitt has two more years in him. Then he’s done. No advisor role. No AD. He’s done. Whitt goes 100 or nothing. That’s what I expect. We will see.

I see Coach Whit doing more of a Bobby Bowden. Hang on for that championship and maybe one more. He truly loves being around all those growing fellas. He loves everything about it, even the smell of grass. Maybe even similar to Nebraska with coach Osborne. I think he gets to 200 wins and a National championship.

I think you also have to consider everything he has gone through with this team. I think there is an emotional attachment especially with this team.

Goodness, this is like what if we get hit by an asteroid tomorrow. Of course it is possible but why not concern yourself with things that have some likelihood.

He’s turned down a boat load of money from other programs before. He’s built this team up, no way he leaves for another school now. He has a pretty sweet contract that will continue to pay after he retires, if he retires from Utah. He won’t have that anywhere else. I don’t see him leaving until Rising does.
I think you should ask yourself why WOULD he leave. If you made a list to stay and one to leave, the list to leave would be much shorter.

There’s a higher chance Whitt retires after this year then him leaving for a new job
-
noneyadbParticipant
He’s not taking another job. Can see him retire after Rising leaves for NFL. This year or next…
