Has anyone watched the Grand Rapids team he coaches? Or know of any significant players he has developed while there? I took a look at their record this year and it was pretty average but I know it doesn’t mean much considering it’s the G-league. I know most the talk is about Jensen but i’m still curious to know if anyone has insight on Dre.

People make a big deal about all of Jensen’s coaching experience and all I can say is while Alex getting all the experience coaching the game Andre was playing the game.

Alex left Utah in 2000 and had a 7 year playing career mostly overseas. Started coaching with Majerus at St Louis in 2007 and hasn’t stop coaching since.
18 coaching career at just about every level. College, G league, NBA and the German national team for 1 season.

Andre left Utah in 1999 and went straight to the NBA for the next 17 seasons. 12th all time in career assists. Retired in 2016 started coaching Grand Rapids in 2022 because he loves the Denver Nuggets organization. Doesn’t need to work has plenty of money. Has been very selective on what jobs he’s willing to take. He’s been offered multiple jobs on coaching staffs and turns them down.
Loves to coach and teach the game. Probably the only NBA job he’d take is Denver and the only College job he’d take is Utah.

Alex has the coaching experience and Andre has the playing experience.
Andre has more NBA street cred than Alex. He better respected in NBA circles than Alex.

Utah can’t go wrong with either one. Perfect scenario. Alex as HC Andre as Assistant HC

I agree with everything AZUTE. One other point Jensen is LDS. Lots of the top Utah recruits are LDS. The Josh Grant interview was spot on. I’ve followed Utah basketball since the Hunstman center was opened. Local talent has always been a backbone of the program. Hard to believe we can’t find a point guard or any other position with all the in state talent. I think Jensen could recruit local talent.

Larry Bird was a hell of a player, not a great coach. I don’t know that playing time necessarily translates to coaching ability. He was point guard (basketball’s quarterback) so he does have that going for him.

Andre received a hearty handshake from Jack Nicholson (who for many years had front row seats in the Forum) after he had a career game for the Nuggets in a playoff game against the Lakers.

I believe it’s been shared on the site before, but I loved hearing Andre Iguodala talk about Andre Miller when asked about the smartest player he ever played with. I always loved his game and loved his approach. Bringing him in would easily be the most exciting thing to happen to the program since the Bogut days.
