ParticipantProbably doesn’t even merit a post at this point. It was totally expected. Still sucks.

ParticipantDid we really expect them to hang with the #3 in the nation??
Silver lining- we held them to 44% shooting, when they have been averaging 50%. It could have been a 30+ point loss.

ParticipantThere is no silver lining. What we’ve seen in the first three games of conference play is going to the same script that will be repeated game after game until the season’s over. The Utes are fatally flawed as a team and, once each game settle downs and the opponent adjusts, Utah really has no answer.

ParticipantThe funny thing is teams are probably over-complicating their strategy against us, specifically our defense. Our defense is comically easy to beat – we can’t stop dribble penetration at all. You don’t really need to run any complex sets to break us down; you just need to let your athletic players drive by our unathletic players and it’s an easy direct path to the basket (since we also don’t have rim protectors). Iowa (Hawkeyes) figured this out in the second half and then just kept doing it and then coasted to the win. I didn’t see the first half of this game, but in the second half Iowa St seemed to be aware they could drive at will and it was a layup parade.

ParticipantThe men played hard. They just looked to be a step slower. The pick & roll defense was weak. Shooting was off. Not too many positives.

ParticipantI have long died inside when it comes to men’s basketball. I saw in the wins glaring problems and lack of coaching. Just a disaster and apathy is all that surrounds the program.
At least with Larry K we had some pulse.-
The Miami Ute
ParticipantWith Larry K, for as much as the program was a dysfunctional dumpster fire by the time he got canned, you at least got better athletes.

ParticipantI have no beef with the level of effort from the guys. They play hard. This roster is just completely devoid of talent. You can’t overcome such a significant gap in talent with effort and hustle in this conference. We just don’t have the guys. I’m pretty over Craig. He’s hamming it up on the postgame talking about what a huge step forward we took tonight and how proud he is of the guys. Cut the crap, what a complete embarrassment.

ParticipantYep his postgame comments are always nonsense — major “participation trophy” energy. Weak sauce. Everything about his energy and words is Charmin soft.

ParticipantFrankly I think his post game comments are a joke. They are so disconnected from reality. Craig is a generally optimistic person which is great but it wears out quickly when you are so optimistic you avoid reality.

ParticipantThere has to be more to this problem than lack of NIL.
Utah has gone through 4 straight Coaches that have all been abject failures.
What is the common denominator?
-
The Miami Ute
ParticipantI definitely don’t think NIL, or the lack thereof, is the biggest problem. I mean FFS, Utah State routinely puts better teams on the floor with what seems like a new HC every season, a totally new roster every season, and fewer resources. Utah just has not gotten it right in the HC department since Majerus retired.

ParticipantIt’s a curse!!
I don’t get it though. Using USU as an example after we hired away one of their last successful hire makes you think it is something else within. It also predates Harlan as much as I want to put that on his head.It sucks. I want to rejoin Utah basketball but it is not a good thing. It is bad and a waste of effort. For me it would be a lot of effort to try and justify it.

ParticipantEagle, let me know when you want to go to a game and I’ll give you a ticket so that you can watch up close and personal.

ParticipantNot to move the goalposts, but it could be worse: Imagine being a BYU-Provo Campus basketball fan. They’ve got a sugar daddy, they’re all-in on basketball, they’ve put together the best roster money can buy…and they’re still getting clobbered in the Big 12. Everyone there is down bad right now.
Yeah we’re getting clobbered too, but the difference is nobody puts any effort into basketball at Utah (I’m talking about the school, the athletic department, and fans).

ParticipantYeah it is pretty funny. I will say last season Keba Keita was getting me a bit excited. So to see him squandered in poo poo land makes me smirk a little.
