This year’s average transfer rating in the Big-XII conference.

I am sure most of you are already aware of the transfers that Utah has brought in. So this is just a review for fun.

Here are this year’s 247 transfer ratings in the XII conference, sorted by average. Yes, I realize that average doesn’t encapsulate everything, and transfers out would be a factor also (sucks losing JJ), but Utah leads the conference in average rating for transfers in. And, of course, BYU is at the very bottom. LOL!

Another reason to believe in great things for this season. And with Huard as a backup QB, the season looks bright!

I don’t care about them neither, however I’m the lone Ute fan in a family of BYU fans and I find the info useful. Gives me some ammo at our next family gathering.

        Hey Alaska,

We’re talking about average ratings here, not overall highest points. Given that Colorado had 42 transfers, and Utah only 12, and the rating by points awards more points to teams with more transfers, it makes it difficult to really compare transfers from team to team. So looking at average ranking per transfer is about the only way to make a comparison.

See the difference in the two links here; one is by average transfer, the other by overall points:

^This is how you have to evaluate recruiting classes, the quality or talent indicator is avg player score or in the 88 range for us.

BYU fan pointed to overall rankings which factor quantity in claiming that their 2024 HS football recruiting ranking was better than ours. The reality is they just pulled in a bigger class than ours of lower talented players.

They’re so smart, but seem to struggle with this one.

Here’s a good article in the SLTrib that explains Utah’s new recruiting approach. It explains that with the Portal being the way it is where kids can transfer whenever they want, Utah is focused more on bringing in kids who can play right away. So the only kids Utah is looking at from high school are the 4 and 5* kids (high 3* kids as well since they’re basically low 4* kids). If Utah lands these kids great but if not they’re not going to settle on lower talent high school kids who have a low likelihood of being able to contribute early.

All that said, don’t expect Utah to have anymore highly ranked recruiting classes as the size of the high school class will likely only be around 12 kids each year give or take a few kids. And the rest will be coming from the portal. The G5 is being looked at as the new farm league for the Power schools. As @Yergenson stated, the key metric to look at is the avg star ranking per recruit to judge the talent level of Utah’s class and NOT the team ranking.

He clearly stated “avg transfer rating”, not overall points ranking.

In my opinion, average rating is better than overall. Obviously, some are going to bring in more transfers in terms of numbers of people because they have more room than others. The quality of the recruit matters more. Same goes for high school recruiting.

Colorado had 42 commits. Of course they are going to be ranked #1 but that is no measure of quality and I do not know how you coach a college football team that has basically turned it’s roster twice in two years. It is nonsensical.

And this is reason 101 why Cougarboard is full on basketball board right now, despite football season being right around the corner. Not gonna be pretty for my Cougs this year😬
