The new scheduling alliance is supposed to make up for moving to an 8 game conference schedule. I think it will be more of a novelty without actual impact since there are a lot of P5 teams that won’t move the needle in a given year.
For example in 2021 an 8 game schedule for Utah would have meant 1 less north team. Let’s assume that it was Stanford that went off the schedule and was replaced by Duke. Both 3-9 teams. Everyone wants to assume that they will get the great games against Clemson or Ohio State but it could just as easily be Rutgers or Syracuse.
Other than getting Utah a true P5 OOC opponent instead of the parochial school, I don’t see the alliance being the gamechanger that it was presented as.
