UtahParticipant
Some have said that Wilson’s performance vs a terrible WMU team was hands down the best performance by a QB this year in the state of Utah.
Let’s look at each QB’s best game.
Wilson: vs WMU, a terrible G5 team.
Love: 5 TD’s vs BYU in a 45-20 win over BYU.
Shelley: Leading Utah to 28 second half points, two TD’s by himself, in a 35-7 comeback win over BYU.
Tyler Huntley: 374 yards and 5 TD’s in a blowout win over USC, 41-28.
Jesus people. Wilson’s bowl game was the fourth best game by a QB in this state AT BEST.

Notice how you avoided Wilson’s stat line in your post. He was 18/18. Second time in NCAA history and set a Bowl game NCAA record.
-
UtahParticipant
Because I could care less what he did vs a bad team.
Dont move the goalposts here. You said it was the best performance in the state this year.
How was that better than the three games I listed?
Hell, how many fans would rather have his game vs WMU vs Mangum’s game vs Wisconsin?
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
18/18 four touchdowns.
-
UtahParticipant
Lol. Good call. 18/18, 4 TD’s so much better than 374 yards and 5 TD’s vs USC.
You have proven your ridiculousness.
-
ProudUteParticipant
Why are you always right and if someone else has a different opinion they are ridiculous, moron, stupid, uninformed, etc. You just seem mad that anyone else could think that Wilson looked good yesterday. Why?
-
UtahParticipant
It bothers me that people hold BYU players up on a pedestal and kick dirt on Utah players.
For Battleground to say that Wilson’s performance was the best in the state this last year…is ridiculous.
For people to say that Wilson is the best QB in the state, when he didn’t beat anyone of note and statistically was worse than Shelley and Huntley and somehow he’s better than Utah’s QB’s…is ridiculous.
As long as Utah fans have this weird worship of BYU’s players, I’ll use facts to show how their feelings aren’t correct. No matter how badly they want BYU to be better than Utah.

So much this. It’s tiring to be honest.

Teams with QB’s that scored 40 on WMU:
Syracuse (55)
Michigan (49)
miami Ohio (40)
Toledo (51)
obio U (59)
Ball St (42)

I would agree that you must put everyting in context and WMU, Hawaii and UMass have bad defenses. He still went 18-18 with below average wide receivers and no running backs. That’s not bad IMO. I do agree that you can’t make too much out of this game, but I still think the kid looks good and he did play well (not great) against us.
Go Utes!!!

Agree with all that

EagleMountainUteParticipant
Just so all of you are aware this is the FIRST time that a superior opponent played an inferior team in a bowl game. I mean don’t want to undersell this, WMU is the worst team to ever play in a bowl game EVER. 2018 it finally happened. TIC.
-
DistantuteParticipant
Are you beating off to byu beating an average team with one of the worst pass defenses in the country?
-
SweetnessParticipant
So I think Wilson was pretty money yesterday and he looks like he is going to have a really good career…remember he’s a true freshman. However, I just looked up western Michigan’s pass efficiency defense and they are ranked 122/129 teams in the country. As good as Wilson was, that probably has to disqualify the game from being in the discussion of best games of the year.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Have there been previous teams before WMU with 122/129 pass defenses? How many times have Qbs thrown perfect games against those teams?

ProudUteParticipant
That’s all your opinion and I respect that. But, it doesn’t make it so. I disagree with your rankings, but it really doesn’t matter because it is so subjective.
I never tried to rank the QB outings and I think it is fruitless to try. You could say USC’s team was decimated by injury, etc. All of the games you mentioned above were very good. I would say that Huntley’s performance against Stanford may have been my favorite. TH came out and made some great plays after Stanford came back.
The only the thing I was saying below is that Wilson had a good game yesterday, especially for an 18 year old freshman. Was it the best performance this year in the State? Who knows and it’s all subjective.
Who is the GOAT? Montana, Brady, Manning, Unitas? There could be an arguement for each of them. There is no right or wrong – it’s just an opinion. I think that the voters picked the wrong guy for the Heisman. Oh well.
Chill out. Others can have an opinion different than yours and that’s okay.
-
UtahParticipant
Hey, you take Wilson and I’ll take Huntley. Good luck.
-
Tacoma UteParticipant
Wilson’s performance was awesome but best in the state this year? Nope. Hell, Love had almost 500 yards in a first half this year and didn’t play in the 2nd half. I wholeheartedly agree with Utah but I agree that Wilson was great.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
I also said PROBABLY in my initial statement. Somehow it become definitive. Listen perfect game to me in passing is impressive. Yards and stuff can be so misleading. You could have a game where the defense gives you short fields and you don’t throw for a lot of yards or TDs. You get a lot of points off of turnovers or rushing TDs. Perfect games by QBs just don’t happen often enough for me to unimpressed. Especially by a freshman.
This could also be a case of me facing a lot of regret over the handling of his recruitment. Tuttle had the stars but never fit TT’s offense. He also was a big vocal recruit who blew his chances.

Montana, Brady, Unitas, Favre and Wilson (I mean 18/18).
-
ProudUteParticipant
Now, that made me laugh. Nice.
But, I would take Johnny Unitas just because he was my hero when I was growing up. Loved those high top cleats. I have no facts to back this up, just a feeling. 🙂

EagleMountainUteParticipant
Huntley was so much better against Stanford. An actual team that is well coached to if you are going to EMPHASIZE who the QB did it against.

Puget UteParticipant
Wilson’s 18-18 was the MOST EFFICIENT game in FBS bowl history. But that does not mean it was the BEST performance in any way. The byu-P receivers were easily able to get separation against the WMU defenders, but Zacky still had to make the reads and make the throws.
As somebody mentioned, Tyler Huntley is top 10 in passing efficiency in FBS. That is outstanding. But nobody would argue that makes him a top 10 QB in the nation.
