This one, from last year’s Holiday Bowl shows the Pac-12 and BigTen sides (presumably the logos will be updated soon for 2018) and the names of the various levels.   The section numbers are the same for all levels, so know your level name.

IMPORTANT EDIT: Utah is going to be on the side with the MSU Spartan helmet.

Except that’s incorrect for this year – Utah is the home team and will be on the MSU side (in your picture)

The stadium is like a wide bowl.  You don’t want to sit too far upfront; a little elevation is needed to see the field better.  It’s an old NFL stadium and one of the worse venue in my opinion.  It sits in a valley so traffic becomes an issue (like the rose bowl).  I would recommend taking the light rail and staying in gas lamp or anwhere along the track.

The wdith comes from its former role as Jack Murphy baseball stadium for the Padres, no?

that is correct.  they called it “multipurpose stadiums” and was popular in the 60s/70s, mostly in Canada where baseball and football share.
