Big 12 financial challenges will be daunting

Jon Wilner wrote a piece yesterday on the challenges that the Big 12 schools will face. With the House settlement and only half the revenue as the P2, some of these schools are going to be in a world of hurt. The Arizona schools look to be in the worst shape.

When looking to blame the chaos of college sports- the ridiculously poor financial management of athletic departments are a fine place to start.

It does not matter whether you are evaluating personal finances, a business, a country, a university, a non-profit, or whatever- if you spend more than you make there is going to be trouble.

Many of the P12 teams were/are in dire financial straights- looking at you UCLA! They had to make any move possible for cash because they spend so much more than they make. That is the California way. That is the American way, sadly.

Utah has been an outlier in being financially responsible, and this has resulted in much less angst and much better options.
