Been hearing his name a lot this camp, sounds like he could turn out to be a stud. Does anyone know the circumstances of Boyd’s transfer?
I read an article that made it sound like he stabbed a teammate in the face? Is that true? I thought he had just transferred, I didn’t realize he was kicked off Texas Tech’s team.I am posting from my phone and can’t seem to link the article. I’ll try to when I get to a computer. -

He was kicked out of Texas Tech for a knife incident. We are definitely getting quite the cast of characters here.

Yikes. If the report is true that he stabbed a teammate in the mouth in front of some recruits that were on a visit, that is pretty messed up. Hopefully his knife wielding days are over. Sounds like the staff is playing with fire a little bit trying to bolster the receiving corps.

Was getting pushed around by a much bigger teammate…another Texas Tech early entry at a party. Guy was hammered and Boyd pulled a pocket knife at some point. Guy went after him and during the ruckus ended up getting a small slice between his lower lip and chin. Question of whether it was intentional or not and no charges filed. Who knows exactly other than those that were there but like I said from what I understand there were no charges filed so at some point self defense came into the picture.
That said I saw him score twice yesterday and would put him in our top 4 on campus right now. He’s damn good.

I’d like to think something along these lines is accurate. I’m willing to give him a chance for sure, just caught me a little off guard when I heard that. Between him and carrington, seems like the staff is willing to take a few more chances on guys as of late.

You say “I’d like to think something along these lines is accurate” regarding Onlyu’s post, why aren’t you taking the same approach about what you’re reading on the internet regarding the “stabbing in the face” and the “knife wielding”?
-
SweetnessParticipant
I’d rather a guy who sounds like he could be a great player for the next four years be a guy that pulled a knife in self defense rather than someone that instigated a fight and stabbed a teammate. Having dudes on your team that stab other teammates, doesn’t sound ideal. If the staff brought this guy in, hopefully this incident was more of a “self defense” type incident than anything else. It is interesting the guy he stabbed didn’t press charges.
-
SmackParticipant
Probably the guy who was “stabbed” did not get to decide whether to press charges. I do not know about practice in Texas, but here in Missouri, the police take reports, and then the prosecutor decides whether to file charges. If a prosecutor here truly thought that someone acted in self-defense, charges would not be filed. In fact, charges could be filed against the other guy if he committed an assault that provoked the stabbing.

He can be Carrington’s designated driver and Carrington can be his sideman to keep him out of trouble.

What’s his 40 time?

Probably like a 3.0 flat.

He has to redshirt this year. He was a 3/4* that was deciding between Utah and TT. He messed up there and now he gets a shot here. Hopefully he threw his pocket knife away when he moved here m

Curious on what Utah does with some of these transfers, if they transferred due to “issues” at their previous school, due they still have any sort of punishment to serve now that they are at Utah?
I don’t know the whole story with Carrington, thought it was drug or alcohol related, but while he was granted his release, will Utah impose any sort of punishment, or we see these guys in week 1?

Kyle Whittingham is remarkably adept at getting troubled young men to turn around their lives. He can rehab players as well as Bill Bellichick.
Players who come into the program from a checkered past are given a clean slate, and a very short leash. They are required to be exemplary students in the classroom, exemplary citizens in the community, exemplary athletes in training and in practice, if they ever want to dress for a game or see the field.
Ex 1) Josh Gordon came into the program from Baylor after having drug problems. While at Utah he screwed around in practice, never attended class, and quietly left the program in October. Got drafted on potential, and has been suspended for the season TWICE in the NFL.
Ex 2) Joe Williams came to the program from UConn, where he was accused (convicted?) of stealing something. He worked like crazy to turn around his life by working hard at school and in practice, but had a disappointing Jr year and start of Sr year. He left the team after the 3rd week last year, and returned a few weeks later. He went on to have the single greatest game in school history (332 yds rushing, 4 TDs), racked up over 1500 yards in 9 games, and now is climbing up the depth chart for the 49ers. He graduated, got married, got drafted, etc, after dealing with some intense personal demons which came to a head early in the season. As it turns out he blamed himself for the death of his younger sister a decade earlier, and had been fighting that demon the entire time. (she had died of a congenital illness, but he blamed himself for her death because he was babysitting at the time)
Sometimes a person just needs a change of scenery and a nudge in the right direction can make all the difference.
In other words, you should plan on seeing Carrington in the ND game. Whether he will still be around in November is entirely up to him.

It sounds like we we are going from a great athletic program that prides its self on great leadership, great work ethics on and off the football field to “Last chance U”??
