    First and foremost, Burgess has coaching chops. He crosses most, if not all, the boxes. Strong recruiter, strong big-man coach (and knows other positions, strong tactician. It’s also important that Coach Smith have a former Ute (if possible) on the staff. Given the proud tradition and the number of former athletes in the community, Smith made a significant mistake not hiring Burgess last year. I’m not saying this issue should be the priority for a head coach but it should be a priority. Both Majerus and Krystowiak had immediate conversations with Chris Hill about former Utes to hire when they were first hired.

    This is a great hire. He can recruit and develop big men. Now, if we can land Keba Keita and Isaac Johnson we might have something to look forward to during basketball season this year…
