What’s with the BYU hype? Are their expectations just so low that when they actually beat the terrible teams they play by an amount any decent team would they’re all of the sudden a playoff team? They have literally the worst schedule in the country but think they’re top 10 when they beat troy by 40 which they should be doing every year. How delusional are they?

No only they are dumb enough to think they’re that good, just wish someone would give them a reality check and beat them but Boise is the only good chance for them to lose.

They are beating their opponents quite badly but the true measuring stick of of a team is how they fare against strong opponents (and Boise State is pretty much the only decent team on their schedule).  They did of course have a lot of P5 teams scheduled until all hell broke loose and everyone’s schedules went crazy.

Going to be interesting how teams are ranked around the country as the season progresses.  Non conference games usually go a long way determining which league is considered strongest but there aren’t a lot of such games this season.

Come late December when playoff and big bowls are announced, likely going to be a lot of shouting and wailing around the country.

In BYU-Provo’s “glory years”, they made a science out of clobbering bad teams and then convincing themselves they could do it to good teams. That’s exactly what they’re doing this year. There’s no stopping that line of thinking – it’s in their DNA.

Their fans think they’re Top-10 even when they LOSE to the sorts of teams they’re playing this year.  But to answer your question, it’s their “culture”.  I spent my Freshman year at the Y.  At the Y, students aren’t taught “how to think”.  They’re taught “what to believe”.  And they’re taught that all leaders at the Y are inspired.  So if they’re “The Lord’s University”, then ybU-p must be “The Lord’s Football Team”.  And how can the “The Lord’s Football Team” be anything less than a Top-10 team?
