In a USA Story yesterday (web link), they reported that several Power Conference teams, including Washington, Illinois and Georgia Tech paid big bucks, only to lose to the team they paid to pad their schedual – no big news. USA Today tracks how team much is paid (web link), and I note that BYU paid both Utah and Arizona State to play them at Provo this year.
On the home and home contracts, the visiting team always gets an appearance fee. Pre Covid, it was normally $300,000 paid to the visiting team. I would imagine that since the in state opponents don’t have a huge travel cost, that the appearance fee is probably reduced for that.
Hmmm…so Idaho State gets twice the payout we get for playing TDS. And I’m pretty sure TDS raises their ticket face value of the Ute game. The Tater Zoobs get even less.
