      Dennis Dodd… CBS Sports

BYU holds the key.  If they were to change thier minds – they could force The mutual destruction option

There is an option that would assure joint extermination of both conferences but assure stability for the survivors: get the top schools in the Big 12 and Pac-12 to agree that forming a new conference is in their best interest.

It could look something like this:

      WEST MIDWEST

      Arizona

      Baylor

      Arizona State

      BYU

      Cal

      Cincinnati

      Colorado

      Houston

      Oregon

      Oklahoma State

      Stanford

      TCU

      Utah

      Texas Tech

      Washington

      UCF

There is some spice if Utah and BYU could reconnect in a conference. The Pac-12 schools get recruiting access to Texas and extend their reach into the Central Time Zone. The Big 12 schools get recruiting access to California while adding the Phoenix, Denver and Seattle media markets.

That hybrid conference might look better than anything one league could form by taking a couple teams from the other. And if the idea is get as close as possible in revenue to the SEC and Big Ten, it might be the best lineup.

Of course, it would also mean the following programs being left out in the cold: KansasKansas StateIowa StateOregon StateWashington StateWest Virginia.

Kansas Bball is too good to leave out. I don’t buy this for a minute.

My thought exactly… Not as much revenue with basketball, but can’t be completely ignored like this.

This is just one talking heads opinion, but I could see it. Basketball is a non-factor in realignment decisions.

Kansas is probably the best example to illustrate this. Kansas has a massive disparity between their football and basketball programs. Their basketball program is elite, while their football program flat out sucks.

But when it comes to net revenue, their football program earns the university more than DOUBLE what their basketball program does.

The only time quality of basketball comes into play is if comparing two programs that are roughly equal in football quality. Then the Bball program could be a selling point.

Oregon and Washington are gone. And that makes everything fall apart.
