Would you guys want him at the U? He hasn’t announced he’s transferring, but if he did, I’d be on the fence. Good shooter in HS, good athlete. Solid rebounder… left Utah high and dry.

Ute DubParticipant
Is his dad still on the BYU coaching staff?
-
chinngiskhaanParticipant
lol

Ute DubParticipant
Think about this: Riley Battin has made double the amount of 3pt shots as Lohner this year. Lohner is shooting 17% from 3…ouch! Both players have taken more than 50 3pt shots this year.
-
chinngiskhaanParticipant
Sure, but he’s miles ahead in every other way, and really is a much better shooter than 17%. He is FAR from a home run get at this point in his career, but his potential is still quite high.
If you think a guy like Holt is better, then he’s not worth it most likely, but Lohner does fill a need. He is a very good rebounder, and a good defender. He gives you those things without taking minutes from Carlson.

Hard pass. Too unreliable.
-
chinngiskhaanParticipant
Eh… unreliable yes… at this point he is a more athletic version of Battin… that can rebound better than anyone on our team. I think he’d be worth it for no other reason than to keep Battin on the bench or off the team next year.

utefansince79Participant
Not sure I would want him at Utah at all. A person of good character doesn’t bail out on a commitment at the last minute the way he did a few summers ago.
-
chinngiskhaanParticipant
that is the one thing that would keep me from doing it… but he was just 18 when making that choice. I don’t really blame him for grown men putting that kind of pressure on him.
-
-
PhiladelphiaUteParticipant
If Utah wants him, we’ll have to give his dad a job. Too high maintenance.
Maybe we could take him back if he agrees to grow his hair back out, and join the women’s team.

Utah5410Participant
Nope. That’s the last thing we need is a prima Dona. Dude made his bed. Now lie in it
-
D TParticipant
No thanks.

AlaskanUteParticipant
I’m pretty sure we can do better than a disgruntled TDS player. He had his chance, and he blew it
-
AlaskanUteParticipant
So, I can’t type. How do I delete this post?

I like your optimism, but there is literally zero evidence to support your claim. The last two times we’ve gone head to head for a recruit we’ve lost. We haven’t successfully recruited anyone with a decent offer list since smith arrived. NOT HIS FAULT, but our recruiting has been close to non existent and mostly bad when it does show up in the news.
The truth is, Lhoner has more potential than anyone we’ve signed since Smith joined.
If Lohner was on our team, we would have beat BYU easily.

RustyShacklefordParticipant
Have you seen our recruits list?

Utes 69Participant
NO WAY. he is a cry baby went to the tds because he did not want to disappoint his church or family!
-
krindorParticipant
He’d make our team better so I’d want him. That simple. Maybe he hasn’t been as good as expected, but he’s still been better than a lot of our guys, not to mention the upside. Being upset with him and hurting our team to spite him doesn’t make sense to me.
-
CharlieParticipant
You would need to measure him against other interested parties in the portal. How many times do you think it would work out well if your buddy had a bad experience with a girl and you were tempted to date her next? I guess you could say that about anyone in the portal. I would prefer someone from a mid major that is doing will and wants to trade up or someone looking for a new style or culture. I would guess he would be looking at a third school.
-
krindorParticipant
Agree – doubt he’d end up here for a variety of reasons. But being honest, our team is pretty bad – no secret there. So it’s not like we only need one new player and are choosing between Lohner and an elite transfer guy.
First off, it’s tough to think we’ll be the top choice right now for any highly-desired portal guys, and even if we are, I’d still go for taking Lohner AND the hypothetical elite portal guy. Even if he just gives Utah what he’s given BYU (defense and rebounding), he’d make our team better.
He’s almost certainly not the elite guy that takes us over the top and makes us a destination again, but he can be a useful part of the team. Given that, I don’t really care where he’s coming from or how he acted 2 years ago, I care what he thinks/does now.

GameForAnyFussParticipant
Yeah I have to laugh a little bit at the “we don’t want him” group. Have you seen what our current roster looks like? Yeah, Lohner’s got problems…but name someone on our current roster who doesn’t have worse ones?
Bottom line is he would make us better.

I haven’t been paying much attention to basketball but if he makes the team better, than you take him. Last I checked, TDS has been better at basketball. Yes he may have issues, but quite honestly, so do the Utes.
-
Utesby1Participant
He made his bed. Now he can lie in it.
Bad karma to sign an LOI and then back out.
