is seriously some 🐍 level bulls**t. Dude went from one of my favorites to GTFOH real quick.

I thought I heard Wilson, Pepa and some others were expected to head there.
They’re tampering and it’s pretty clear.
If they sabotage enough, it will hurt Whitt and Scalley and the program long term.
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
It’s not really tampering though is it. They just have more money to offer.
I am just about done with this s**t.
-
Rick WalkerParticipant
The only that makes it not tampering is the fact that it’s legal. But if you asked anyone a couple years ago if this was tampering they’d probably say yes.
-
AnferneeParticipant
It’s all yuck

UtesRuleParticipant
It’s not tampering since the portal is officially open.
-
jshame17Participant
All stories I’ve heard is that Wilson has been working on inside mid-season. They were shopping and having conversations.
Calhoun stated he was staying and the portal wasn’t open and then POOF… going to the portal. Someone approached him when the portal was in fact, not open and he hadn’t entered.
TAMPERING
-
AnferneeParticipant
Announcing you’re entering the transfer portal and have 6 offers within the hour is something. Pretty obvious what’s been happening.

HATUmanParticipant
If a kid is getting offered before he’s in the portal, that sounds like tampering to me. It was never meant to happen like this. This is getting ugly.

Is smith and his billionaire friends funding some of these guys now then? I can understand maybe Pepa going there and I could care less about Wilson but if they are coming after a guy like Calhoun, that seems it is all money. Certainly not for a lack of playing time when he should have one of the CB positions shored up. When was the last time 💩💩 put a CB in the league? If he goes there, something is really wrong with where we are at NIL wise and there is no clear fix anywhere on the horizon.

Utah#1Participant
They way I look at it, what goes around comes around. We will have some hard times ahead as long as Whitt is still head coach and BYU has their billionaire donor, but it all well come to an end. Whitt will be gone and Utah can begin rebuilding the football program and BYU’s billionaire donor won’t be able to save BYU’s programs no matter how much money he has. You simply can’t buy everything. Either Scalley or Beck, given time, should return Utah back to its Pac-12 Rose Bowl years. Not wishing BYU bad, but just saying. Go UTES!

How did Ryan Smith get his billions? What companies did he start? It is my right and my duty as a Ute fan to boycott any and all business ventures he’s involved in. This is clearly tampering. This may be just the beginning.

Qualtrics.

hbUteParticipant
SAP bought Qualtrics in 2018 for $8B.
That’s how the backward cap bro made his big $$$.

I thought this was kind stupid when I first heard about it, but dare I say I am also now honestly wondering if I really want to support the Jazz or the Utah Hockey Club to the extent that I have historically. The Jazz suck and the halfway rebuild has been frustrating. This is just another reason to at least take a breather for a few years. The hockey team is pretty fun though, but it’s hard to swallow supporting the guy who is so meaningfully supporting my enemy.

BoxerUteParticipant
Jazz basketball was at one time #3 for me as far as the athletics I cared about. #1 Utah football and #2 Utah basketball…
Ever since smith bought the jazz I have not watched even a minute of jazz basketball. I used to buy jerseys, tees, hoodies etc… I would even attend a handful of their games. I will not support any thing Smith is part of including hockey.
It surprises me that any Ute fan would support him. Thats just me…-
jshame17Participant
I’m with you.
I also refused to eat Bam Bam bbq once I found out he was a TSPP booster. 🤷🏻♂️
I was not happy when he had a trailer at Utah games for a season. Why they would give him a deal, where he was taking Ute money and handing it directly to our rival, will never make sense.

Man, so disappointing. All the stuff the guy tweeted over the past 1-2 weeks, it feels like a stab in the back. I’m trying to remember that all of these players are just 20 years old, but that’s just another reason why this system is so jacked up. Not only is there no salary cap, no contracts, and no draft…but we’re dealing w/ employees that haven’t been adults for more than 1-3 years. If Calhoun is getting more NIL somewhere else, I can’t blame him for doing what he thinks is best for his own situation, but it’s just hard to watch the way he’s dealt w/ this. And it’s hard to not feel frustrated by the lack of loyalty. Didn’t even give Utah a thank you / goodbye, did he?

CoyoteUteParticipant
Makes sense why he dropped that pick at the end of the TDS game 🤦

Relax. All the sweeter when we take them behind the woodshed next year.

Might be hard with no offensive players. 🙂

If he has a higher market value somewhere else, the U and the collective need to figure out if they are willing to match it or let him walk. Maybe they don’t even need to match it to get him to stay, they just need to offer more than they currently are and he may see a reason to stay if he thinks he will get better coaching or a better shot at the NFL.
Honestly this is the way the world works unless you are in a Union that does the negotiating for you. At the end of the day you need to do what is best for yourself. In your late teens or early 20’s you might not exactly know what is in your best interest past the bag you are being offered, which is really the part that concerns me the most. Sometimes more money in the short term isn’t the answer, but when it’s a lot more than you are currently getting you at least need to look at the options and weigh them out.

The transfer portal is the wild Wild West right now. The ncaa is doing nothing to fix the process.
Schools can’t contact players during the season or before the portal opens but “agents” can at anytime.
The Colo st head coach said in a press conference his top 30 players have all been contacted by “agents” telling them they can get them deals at other schools for 20 to 30% of the total NIL deal.
It’s beyond out of control and the ncaa is you get what you ask for mode and just sitting back laughing
