I know I annoyingly created a separate thread but I thought the other thread was not the full story.
Her exact comment was that she wanted Utah to make it right. My interpretation: Currently, Utah did not make it right, therefore he has to leave. She wants him here if Utah fix’s the wrong and pays the most or equal to the other offer. That’s fine if she wants that but it’s not a bleeding heart issue. Let’s roll with Snowden and Keenan Johnson and the others.
I wish him nothing. -

For missing the game winning interception against TDS .. lol

Got to make the INT to get paid.

Maybe he’ll meet a nice LDS girl and get a job with an MLM company at the Y. I wonder if they have to pay tithing with the NIL money. Call his bluff. He’s using it as leverage.

Just because byu offered Calhoun does not mean he’s going there. I’d be shocked if that’s where he ends up, I’ll eat my words if I’m wrong

Jim VanderhoofParticipant
Sorry if my comments offended someone. I was just joking and my point was he is using it as leverage to get more money.
-
Rick WalkerParticipant
I wasn’t trying to suggest I was offended. I’ve just seen and heard lots of people who act like he’s already a cougar

How many of us have used a job offer to get a raise at our current job?
I see nothing wrong with players leveraging their market value. I do agree that there need to be some controls in place.

Very fair point. However, I would counter that his job right now is to entertain fans. (As that is the ultimate source of all money in athletics.) It’s certainly within his right to try and get more money from a different fan base, but he shouldn’t be surprised if how he’s doing it turns his current fan base against him.

Ute DubParticipant
That’s fine. Just don’t say Utah has to make it right. Utah operates under constraints that are different from other schools.

I think we will all be better off going forward without the expectation of loyalty. That’s now long gone. You do have to look at it now as it’s a job for them and the majority of the time they will go where the money is. Definitely don’t blame them, blame the system. And don’t think for one second that they care where they receive their education from. $$$ talks.

I would actually say that, right now, it’s not really a job but a one way street in the direction of the athletes. I don’t know of many jobs where you can collect a $100K check and skip town the next day to a better “job” like Damien Martinez did earlier this year. I also don’t know many jobs where you can’t perform in anything approximating an adequate manner, like neither Rising nor Wilson did this past season, and not get fired.
It seems like, at least to me, that the environment we’re currently operating in has all of the advantages (read security) of the previous student-athlete era and the freedom of the regular job marketplace but none of the drawbacks that most working people operate under.
Personally, at least for football and MBB, if you’re going to get paid, I’d like to see a system where players can get cut and released without a hint of drama like in the pros.

I think the first rule should be if go to the portal you can’t return (price shopping). Secondly if you leave for more money you need to pay your previous team 10% for expenses. Right now it’s open free agency with no penalties or consequences. Maybe I’m wrong but it seemed like the old transfer rule was you had to sit out a year pre NIL and that might help also.
I’d bet money if the fans boycotted the first game and threatened to not return until changes were made something would get done fast. As usual we the fans pay in one way or another.

As long as we don’t have to pay the max to get his replacement. If so, we should have paid him. So hard though because our other CB’s would then be mad. Tough environment
