Cam Rising Leaving Utah

Cam was given another year of eligibility after a lawsuit with the NCAA. I forget which one. It reinstated the year he lost sitting out when he transferred from Texas to Utah.

I’m pretty sure he’s eligible to return due to a medical redshirt and NOT because of that lawsuit (forced to sit out the 2019 season due to transferring).

“Cam Rising not expected to return to Utah
It appears that Cam Rising’s run at Utah is over.”

“The current expectation is that the star QB won’t be back with the Utes next season, sources tell CBS Sports/247Sports.”

Now, for me, I’m not taking a position one way or the other whether Cam should stay or leave. … but… I do strongly say… Something just doesn’t smell right here if this story is true. “Appears”, “current expectation is”, “sources”.?!?

After Cam’s unsurpassed run on the field and in the hearts of the fans, I can’t imagine he would simply take off and have a 3rd party issue a half baked statement announcing his departure. If Rising really is calling it quits at Utah I would expect either an official announcement on his part or the University publicly recognize his tremendous contribution to the team and program. “No question about it”!

The other side of the coin though, is that with the portal opening up, there is no way any quality future QB recruit would consider the U if Cam was known to be coming back,… it obviously would torpedo any serious recruitment.

We need QB depth and the only way to fill the room is with the perception that Cam has moved on.

Guess we’ll find out in the Spring if he shows up in helmet and pads!

The original instagram post announcing Whitt with “ I’m Back” has been deleted and removed with “we are back in 2025”.

Either it’s the Royal we and Whitt is hinting at his new title of ruler, or something is afoot…

I took ‘we’ to he Whitt and Scalley, but basically just a collective ‘we’ instead of making it about ‘I’, meaning Whitt

Scalley thing doesn’t make sense to me, he’s the coach in waiting, and the MOST secure on staff no matter what happens.

Yeah, I was being facetious about Cam, but the change to ”WE” was interesting and overall, pretty poorly executed announcement. Zero energy IMO. And what is the Swoop Associates?

I thought it was a joke when texted to me, but it showed up on the Utes Athletic and Football Instagram, so it was official. It was really, really weird IMO. Old school looking letterhead? Surprised they didn’t use Papyrus or Comic Sans as the font …

Agree that it was clunky changing from I’m back to We are back. Just odd. Like some PR intern tried to get creative. I’m just surprised that it didn’t include ‘With that being said, …’ (a pet peeve of mine – just say it!).

The only thing I can think of is that they were reaffirming that Scalley was all in and not wavering with wandering eyes to some P2 OC or HC position (that has been totally absent)? Just odd all the way around.

Whitt is no MJ… and that really doesn’t help explain the pivot form “I’m” to “we”…

I hope and think they’re trying to say “we” as in Utah football will be back at the top of the conference in 2025…. But we need to see something from Beck & Co, and the portal before we start making any proclamations.
