Can Whittingham go clean out his office and go home? If he said this year was the Twilight Zone and how everything went wrong, then what was last year? A Sunday stroll?
He has lost his swagger, his game management, his scouting of players, the locker room, a good chunk of fans, and soon-to-be players to the portal.
Yup. It’s all about what have you done for me lately and he’s done an abysmal job. I don’t think anybody is prepared to see the exodus we’re about to have. NIL and the portal is going to hurt Utah because we should’ve adapted 2 years ago. Utahs offensive scheme has been s**t the majority of Kyle’s tenure, I’m over it. I prefer to watch a football team and see some offense AND defense. The past 2 years we’ve been force fed to watch Utahs defense bend until they break. Kyle can get the hell out. Thanks for what you’ve done but you’ve now overstayed your welcome. Take Cam with you too. Sorry, i need to cool off.
The other issue is Whittingham is a soon-to-be, lame-duck coach. We all know he is going to be gone in the next year or two but will he be holding this team hostage on the way out the door?
I hope he has 0 say on the next OC. Anything less is a disservice to Scalley.
You’ve hit on the problem though. It doesn’t matter who the OC Scalley wants. Because if Whitt is the Head Coach next year, the OC will be running the offense in the manner that Whitt wants.
And if I can go 3rd person here, 2008 National Champ does NOT know more about football than Scalley or Whitt. But both of those gentlemen are victims of their own success to the point where even 2008 National Champ can sit on his recliner and figure out how to beat them because their success has brought on predictability. And until those 2 understand the need to innovate with more than late substitutions, Utah fan is stuck with what they are seeing every week.
