There is a giant chasm of talent between the best of the pac/acc/big12 and the sec/b1g top tier teams.

teams like Utah CANNOT compete with 6 ft 4 240 lb giants with elite speed. Their giant of a qb is faster than 99% of our team. We can’t complete with that.

The 12 team playoff is coming about a decade too late. It’ll just be the best team in the SEC winning 8/10 times, and the best of the b1g winning the rest.

it’s time for a European system of clubs to at least give us little guys a chance.

College Football is fine. It has been this way for a long time. Enjoy the sport.

100% agree with this.  NIL with no oversight + the free-agency transfer portal put the nail in that coffin.

When we lose our five best players to SEC and BigTen teams or until we’re relegated to the BigXII because the Pac folded. Then it’s time to pick an NFL team and watch the highest level of professional football instead of a semi-pro league.

I’d say that the first objective has occurred multiple times over. Teams from those two conferences out-compete Utah for recruits continuously and have done so since the modern era. Choose your NFL team wisely.

I agree, pretty much all the 4 and 5 star talent go to a handful of schools. Unless you have the NIL money now, it’s almost impossible to compete.

But hey, we’ll have Bama winning the championship 7 of the next 10 years….that’s interesting right? 🙄

The championships are one of the least interesting parts of this sport, in my opinion.

Wait until they start paying players like has been talked about in the B1G. That will widen the gap even more.

For decades, in both college football and basketball, certain teams have the best players that money can buy. All of the “marquee” teams have been doing this with very good stealth, or with little interest by the NCAA to investigate them. However, the NCAA goes after the “non-marquee” programs that try the same methods to compete. With the NIL, now all of these tricks being used to pay the top players is out in the open, and legal. There is more competition now that is out in the open. Until there are strictly enforced rules for player compensation, the wealthy programs (aka “marquee” programs) will continue to get the best players money can buy. It’s why the SEC and Big Ten are greedy in football dollars, at the expense of the other conferences. The Utes can compete, but are at a disadvantage financially. If there aren’t strict rules and enforcement for player compensation soon, then college football, as we know it, at the FBS level will continue to devolve into the haves and have nots—with the haves winning all of the “championships”.

Saying Utah cannot compete is a bit of a strong statement. With many points left on the field earlier, we were one 6 yard pass away from taking the lead with a half minute left.

One of earliest years in college we lost 55-9 to Nebraska and a few years later gave up 60+ to the Buckeyes (something like 64-6 or 62-6 or so) . I won’t mention scores against that team in Provo.  THAT was not competing.

I believe the implication is that we can’t compete for future players that will allow us to compete on the field like we have been.
