This article talks about Utah coaches being confident in Isaac Wilson. There is not a lot new in the article, but there is a very important point – They need to make the decision early in the week who will play so the QB can get the necessary reps. So, hopefully the staff has decided who will go.
Last season, Cam would get half the reps and then not play. I would hate to see a game-time decision as to Cam playing or not. If Isaac is going to be the guy – get him the reps.
I really hope cam is the guy this Saturday, but I don’t know a thing about the extent of his injury.
Go Utes!!!

If they expect Cam to start, he should be getting the reps during the week. But if his hand isn’t healed enough for that, you gotta figure Wilson’s the man.

I’ve been told by a little birdie that Rising has not practiced at all this week.
Whitt has said they would determine early in the week who would start so they could get the reps.
Mitchell has come out and stated that the RB’s need to step up and Utah’s goal is three RB’s to have 100 yards each rushing.
I think we have been told who is starting at QB vs Utah State.
And we will still beat them by 30+.

I like your optimism!

I also like the optimism. With a week of practicing with the 1s, Wilson will look much better. I dont expect him to light it up, but a solid 175-200 yard and 1-2 TD game will be enough to blow Utah State out.

What else are they going to say about the guy who is most likely to start the next game? that he sucks and they have no confidence in him being able to put his shoes on the proper feet, let alone call the right play or hand the ball of to the correct person?
Bigger issue to me is that if Wilson plays Saturday, you’ve effectively burned his redshirt. Once again, the QB coach is not able to assemble an acceptable room that can take up the slack should the guy, who has gotten injured every year he has been allowed on the field, not be able to lead the team.

Don’t think Wilson is going to stick around for 5 years, so redshirt situation doesn’t matter. Get him the reps and experience! Robert Morris scored 14 on the Aggies, surely the Utes, with or without Cam, can do better, and the Utah defense should hold USU under 2 TDs (barring gaffes that give them a short field).

Redshirts don’t matter with the transfer portal. Redshirt or not, Wilson is either starting for us next fall or transferred out.

CharlieParticipant
Redshirting has vanished for guy expected to go to the NFL with them on a 3 year plan. That still leaves space for another year if needed and an additional medical redshirt if timing is right. Recent Utah draft picks show us 1 or two years at a high level is all that is needed to be drafted. I have no idea if Wilson is expected to go to the NFL but I can’t imagine he is considering a redshirt since 4 years is ample opportunity for him.

Let’s just hope that getting reps all week and a more manageable playbook helps IW get his footing.
Maybe it burns his Redshirt, maybe it doesn’t. If Cam stays healthy the rest of the year we’re good, and honestly still having a redshirt in your back pocket for future use isn’t an altogether terrible thing.

Here’s to hoping Isaac’s play will spark the beginnings of a new quarterback controversy.
