      Utah @ #25. It’s nice getting respect.

3 opponents ranked ahead of Utah, 6 opponents in “others receiving votes”

OK, but by my estimation, we should be higher by ten spots @ 15, or so.

Should be up another 24ish spots.

Random side note Kalani put BYU in at #16, according to some BYU fans. If true, lame.

Doesn’t look like Kalani is a voter (Voters are listed under the poll)

That’s what I get for trusting BYU fans to know something about anything.

I haven’t followed their offseason moves, but what is Texas doing on this list???

Riding the reputation of their recruiting classes?  As usual. Easy to do when everyone is 0-0.

Oh yeah, I forgot they hired him. Okay, makes sense. Albeit, it’s nothing but speculation (as is the entire poll), but I would bet on an upgrade with him at the helm too.

I think it’s nice that they made the top 25, but I can see at least 7 in front of us that are…questionable.

        Who are the 7?

Texas and South Florida are the only two that really jump out at me. They both hired new coaching staffs this off-season and Texas has been down for a few years. Other than that, maybe Georgia and Auburn, but I’m basing that 100% on last season’s records; I don’t know anything about what they have coming back.

The 4 you mentioned, especially dubious is Texas. But WVU and Kansas seem like interesting choices to me, especially considering who got left out altogether (no Notre Dame, Boise State, etc). Actually I realized UCLA is not in there so I revise down to 6. Usually UCLA is ranked pre-season.

Preseason polls are nice. I care we we are rated at the end of the season.

But I like the fact we don’t have to worry about “busting” into the Top 25.  We’re already there.  Now just win baby.

We need to blow North Dakota out if want to stay there. Anything short of a 30 point victory and I think we will drop out in favor of one of the teams behind us who isn’t opening with an FCS team. Several of the teams right behind us open up with an FBS game and a few are playing pretty big games.

#27 Colorado vs CSU (just because it is a rivalry)

          #31 aTm @ UCLA

#33 NC State vs South Carolina

I think only 4 of the 10 teams ranked right behind us play an FCS team week 1.

I think UND gets some respect as a quality non-P5 team, but that said, can’t win in a squeaker and stay Top-25.   Know that KWhitt won’t be looking past them and maybe even Troy Taylor will want to make an opening statement.

Preseason polls mean practically nothing. I’m surprised to see us on there at all given our roster turnover. In my opinion, rankings shouldn’t exist until week 4 or so, but that takes some entertainment value away from the game, I suppose.

Exactly.  Sports media needs something to do before the season starts and message boards need to discuss whether or not there should be preseason polls.

And like the past several years, we’ll earn our post-season top 25 ranking.

Back in 1984 they meant something to tds-P.  Their team was ranked pretty high to begin with but then they went on the road and beat a Pitt team that was ranked in the top five.  Well that Pitt team went on to a 3-7-1 record but tds-P basically switched places with them and then ran the table playing more s**tty teams and ending undefeated and “earning” their bulls**t national championship.

An interesting factoid. The net total of position changes for the PAC-12 vs. the SEC. Note that this is only for the teams in the top 25.

      PAC12:
      USC +1
      Washington -3
      Stanford -2
      Utah -4
      Total: -8

      SEC:
      Alabama +1
      LSU +2
      Auburn +9
      Georgia +21
      Florida -3
      Tennessee 0
      Total: +30

Yep, Coaches Poll showing a normal, healthy bias towards the SEC.
The fact that we’re ranked #25 is nothing short of a miracle.

I don’t get the love for Georgia and Texas at all.
