…”Or at least once in a 5 consecutive season stretch? “…
This is the key. People (including the trib beat writer) who want to let Larry off with a COVID-19 excuse season, are not paying attention to the fact that this is NOT the first disappinting year, by far.
Utah is now, at very best, the 3rd rated program in the state. We lost very badly to one of the top two, and would have almost certainly lost to the other, just as badely if we had played them.
For those out there defending Larry, should we really be expected to be satisfied with the program that we watched the last several years?
I’m not expecting Larry to be fired this year, the Utah Atheletic budget is a disaster after this last year, and the buy out is still too high. But given what I’ve been watching for several years now, I’m not expecting anything to change dramatically with the performance of the program next year either.
I’m not down on the individual players, and I continue to root for the team. I try not to spend a lot of time griping about the program, but it is not where it should be. Maybe Larry will turn things around next year, and start into a long series of successful years, like I thought we would be seeing after 2015 and 2016. And if so, no one will be happier than I that he’s succeeding and still around. But I have no reason to believe that will happen and if it does not, I’ll be very unhappy if he’s here following next year.
