As a BYU fan, I think the best case scenario is a Big 12-PAC 12 merger. Right now as things stand, both conferences are fairly weak and unstable and are a couple conference realignment moves from being obsolete. But I think a merger gives the conference the best chance of staying relevant and would give some stability.
For Utah, the best case scenario would be a Big 10 or SEC invite. Its improbable that this happens, and for BYU’s sake, I really hope this doesn’t happen. I don’t want BYU to be left behind again.
What I personally think happens is that the PAC-12 will do the same thing that the Big 12 did and snatch some higher-level G5 teams like Colorado State or San Diego St. I think this is the most boring scenario, but I think this will help the conference stay relevant.
In general, I think the conference will be fine. Right now everyone is freaking out, but they will probably survive it.
