Today’s interview with Cam Rising:
Says he is doing good with limited reps. He claims to still be on pace.
Lud and Whitt challenge the QBs and put them to the test. He doesn’t think that there is a lot of separation. He feels that the scrimmage today will help the coaches make a decision.
Ball security is the most important thing to the coaches. Ludwig’s offense is built around ball security. (He said Ludwig but I think it is Whitt.)
As a QB, you need to be able to make the changes necessary to ensure that the pressure is limited.
Bryson Barnes understands the offense as well as anyone. He is also very good at ball security.
The two centers competing to start are neck and neck. Cam said he is taking snaps in practice.
Riley said, Ludwig told him that he loves this offensive line. Cam agrees. The defense is testing these guys and throwing everything at them.
Cam has known Pittman since he was 14. Pittman is a “bad” man and very competitive. He has the build of a running back with good hands. He says that he is a freak of nature. (I get the feeling that Cam is going to get Pittman the ball.)
McClain has moved back to wide receiver from tight end. He has deceptive speed. Riley said he has heard good things about him in camp. Cam is glad he is back to WR.
Cam is sad about the demise of the PAC12. He grew up in California and that’s the conference he has always known. But, nothing can be done, so we need to get out and play football.
He feels that the Utes will do fine in the Big 12 and should be competitive from day 1.
The focus in camp is all about getting the team prepared for the season. They are at least a week away from prepping for Florida. However, Cam has been watching film including the teams the new D coordinator has coached. Cam is a film junkie.
He said it is nice to be recognized for the preseason awards, but at the end of the day he needs to prove it on the field.
On defense, he says that Jonah Ellis is looking very good.
We have two corners that are 6’3″. We are bigger at corner than we have been in the past.
His message to Utah fans is that regardless of what happens between now and the game with Florida, the team will be ready to go.
