  I love how quickly and decisively he starts running after he catches the ball. It seems like that split second of hesitation that other returners struggle with makes a huge difference in making the first line of defenders miss. It’s as if he’s able to watch the incoming defenders, the incoming ball and plot his route while the ball’s in the air.

  It’s early, but right now Covey is #2 in both total punt return yardage and in average punt return yardage (interestingly #1 there is Rashid Shaheed from Weber St).

  Before watching the video I was thinking there had to be excellent blocking. Nothing against Covey, it is just insanely hard to beat NFL talent.

  And just like rookie year, he started the season on the practice squad (and can only be pulled up for games 3 times) and is now signed to the active roster for the season (full 2nd year minimum salary rather than weekly practice squad pay). Tough that he has to keep proving himself, but he is a luxury to have as a returner taking a roster spot. Hopefully he stays healthy, but good for him showing his value and excelling.
