The Miami UteParticipant
We are excited to host our first Crimson Club Basketball Coaches Luncheon of the season on Thursday, January 23 at 12 p.m!
Join us at the Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House for an exclusive breakdown of the 2025 seasons from men’s head basketball coach Craig Smith and women’s head basketball coach Gavin Petersen.
Who’s going? Will the MBB team have won a conference game by that date?

The saddest “party” in all the land. Sigh.

Meanwhile Utah state is ranked in the top 25 and has been to four NCAA tourneys since Utah last made it. Is our basketball program just condemned to being ass forever now?

Oh, it’s not only that…Utah State has gone through multiple coaches, because they keep getting hired away, and starts with an all new roster, it seems like, every season. I have to give them full props for doing so much more with so much less than Utah.

This Iowa State game is at least watchable and a better effort.
Although this 2nd half reminds me a bit of the Mississippi State game loss of could against the Utes. 12min left looks like at least 3 players will foul out

You know…the MBB has all of the hallmarks of a mediocre team.
Game starts and they’re decent for a while. Then the other team adjusts to what Utah is doing and Utah either lacks the personnel or coaching know-how to be able to stay in the game. And thus, by the end of the game, what you have is another blowout loss.
I don’t think that there’s a single person on this site who doesn’t realize that Smith is not the answer for Utah basketball. And, if we amateurs know that, why does he still have a job? Well, I know why he still has a job…firing him would reflect horribly on Harlan who hand-picked him for the job and it would force Utah to eat the remainder of his contract.

Smith had success while coaching Utah State (why he was hired at Utah). Maybe the secret to the future of Utah men’s basketball is to move the men’s team to the Mountain West.
It’s hard to get my kids interested in Utah men’s basketball when it will be at least 10 years before they make the NCAA again since I’m not expecting it this year. My older kids will have all grown up and left the house by the time they might be successful again at this rate. It’s too bad because the program and fans deserve better.
If the program can’t hire people that can recruit top talent, at least hire people that can develop more 2 and 3 star athletic players into 4 star players by the time they are seniors.

Pass. I almost went to a football one. Almost.

Well, I went to a football event last year and I liked it. Whitt is obviously a better speaker than Smith and the catered food was pretty good.

I’ll keep that in mind for this upcoming season. $35 seemed “reasonable.”
-
The Miami UteParticipant
I thought it was for the quality of food that you got. It surely wasn’t much more, if that, than going out to dinner with the wife.
