Guy is a 3* Safety in the 86-87 range out of Texas. Just got a Crystal Ball to Utah this morning. Wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to play for Scalley!

Tilmon is going to be another elite safety pickup by Scalley. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him get the bump up to 4* status.

I’m hoping a few of these 3 star guys get a bump up to 4. This class might not be as bad as it seemed at first if they can land a couple more high-end prospects
-
krindorParticipant
I think some will…but it probably won’t be Tilmon just given where he’s currently rated. That would be a BIG bump, more than players normally get.
That said, looking at players as 3 stars vs 4 stars is a bad way to consider it.
An 89 overall player (3 stars) has a lot more in common with a 90 (4 stars) than a 82 or 85 or even an 86.
Stacking guys in (at least) the high 3-star category (88+) is really the goal (with a few exceptions for lower rated players that the staff particularly likes)

UCF (6), TCU (5), Baylor (5), Texas Tech (3), and Colorado (3) have more 4-stars than Utah (2) so we need to get some bumps to have competitive classes with the top of the Big 12.

krindorParticipant
Right now I’d say we have probably the (tied for) 4th best recruiting class in the conference.
TCU and UCF are way ahead of everybody, unless we land Tilmon, Epenesa AND Myles, we aren’t catching them.
Baylor is solidly ahead of the rest, kind of in their own tier. And then us and Texas Tech are neck and neck for the 4th spot and leading the larger grouping

Tillman is in…more to come

Central Coast UteParticipant
OnlyU, can you divulge the Utes’ chances on landing Epenesa?

Tilmon is a hurdler which is a great indicator that he’s got a defensive back’s hips. Utah got a great recruit!
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
not sure how hurdles translate to DB play. running in a straight line and jumping over an obstacle v backpedaling and breaking with the receiver in any possible direction. seem like different skillsets.

According to 247, we are up to the 37th ranked recruiting class at this point. A lot can change still but this class is shaping up really nicely
-
MDUteParticipant
Tilmon is such a great get! Definitely will see him get a nice Utah bump up in his rating. Great job by Scalley, as always!
Glad to hear we’re still in it for Epenesa but it’s feeling like he’s an Iowa lean with his brother already playing there and being closer to home. Would love to see our coaches find a way to land him! He’s a game wrecker for sure!
