I have not been pleased with our defense over the last month.  But, tonight _ I was very impressed.  There were three or four bad plays.  We made that many mistakes in USC’s first drive last week.  The D played great tonight, with 4 sacks and 10 TFLs.  I admit that I was surprised but very pleased.  They will need to step up next week since we don’t know what we have on offense.

I think it’s easy to forget just how young the D is.  The level of competition wasn’t as high tonight as the last few weeks (let’s face it, USC is a NCAA all star team), but they are getting better each game.

It literally was about the level of competition. You had essentially two subPro teams you had to play againson the road once with a young defense. Utah’s made enough stops to get a win though against SC.

Wazzu got lucky that Clark fell down on their first TD. That second TD was pretty much a breakdown and bad play calling all around.

Utah looked really nasty all game to. A few sacks were missed because they tried to arm tackle but best looking performance all season.

The defense still had a few mistakes. Most notably Barton failing to recognize the draw play that went for a TD. Everyone except our defense knew that was going to happen. All they had to do was block Barton and they were in, and he even had the good sense to move out of the way pre-snap to make it even easier on them.

The defensive play call there was bad to begin with. We were essentially playing prevent defense in the redzone, crazy sauce.
